1. JustGOODNews.BIZ
JustGoodNews.BIZ was created as an antidote to the national
media’s often negative coverage of business news during the 2008-2009
recession.
Dick Rush and his wife, Kris, worked for the State Chamber of
Oklahoma. As they gave speeches to local business groups and service
clubs, they were struck by the difference in what national news media
reported about business at the time and what they saw with their own
eyes.
“We watched so many Oklahoma business
leaders navigate the treacherous waters, revamp
their businesses’ processes and collaborate with
other companies in new ways,” Kris Rush said.
“They worked hard to hold on to their workers
while still investing in their communities, volun-
teering and contributing with little fanfare or recognition.
“Their stories almost never made the news,” she said. “Bernie
Madoff, big corporate layoffs and other disheartening stories stole the
spotlight.”
In 2010 when the couple were hired to run the national association
of state chamber CEOs, they saw the problem was far worse in other
states. “We knew then Americans needed to hear about people who
were keeping the economy alive,” Rush said.
As a result, the couple decided to start JustGOODNews.BIZ, a
national online news service highlighting positive business stories and
opportunities, state-by-state, sector-by-sector, free-of charge.
“America needed a news service to spotlight who’s hiring, who’s
expanding, plus innovative companies and communities with great
ideas,” she said. “To help businesses find and share growth opportuni-
ties. To help good workers find good jobs.”
Launched in 2013 as a part-time content creation venture,
JustGOODNews.BIZ became a full-time news company this January.
A comprehensive new site gives companies and communities of every
size a national platform to share accomplishments
and success.
Under the direction of a national editor, JGN’s
freelance writers search out news shared by com-
panies, governors, chambers and economic devel-
opers – plus leading headlines from media across
the country. More than 20,000 stories have been published to date.
While JGN runs some original content, most stories are summaries of
existing news. Each links back to the original story.
Revenue streams include custom, dedicated sites for Featured
Communities archiving their GOOD news, videos, publications and
job openings to be easily accessible to expanding companies and job
seekers. JGN reinvests 20 percent of sponsor and ad revenue from these
sites into special accounts reserved to buy each community digital ban-
ner ads on premium business sites, targeted to sectors each community
wants to attract. Corporate partner packages are also available.
