2. Question 3:
“Mothers should not work outside the home.
They should stay at home to look after their
children.”
What are your views?
3. Introduction
• General Statement: Previously, a student is able to have a sumptuous meal
with just an allowance of a mere dollar. However, now due to the rising cost
of living standards, a single dollar is not sufficient to even buy a meal.
With the pressure of wanting to provide a comfortable life for their children,
mothers are starting to work outside home in order to bring in more income.
• Interpretation & Scope: However, some argue that working mothers are
depriving their children of a childhood due to the absence of both their
parents at home.
• Thesis Statement: I believe that mothers should work outside home instead
of staying home to look over their children as they are able to allow their
family to lead a more comfortable lifestyle and allow their children to be more
independent. However, mothers should also know how to balance work and
family.
4. Peel 1: A more comfortable lifestyle
• By providing more income for the family, they are now able to lead a more
comfortable life:
• Able to afford better quality food and items
• Able to afford better education for her children (Buy more assessment books,
hire more tutors)
• Able to have more family time together (able to afford going out more often,
and going to places such as amusement parks)
• This also places pressure of children to worry about the family’s financial
situation and allow them to concentrate more on their studies
5. Peel 2: Develop more independent children
• Children can no longer depend on their parents to do the house chores. They
will have to start depending on themselves to keep the house tidy.
• Develop the ability of empathizing with the tired mother of having to
work and keeping the house tidy
• Children will also have to develop self-discipline as no one would be there to
keep nagging at them to do their homework or self revision.
• All these will be able bond the family together as they can all do the house
chores together, splitting the chores amongst themselves.
6. Peel 3: mothers should also know the limit
• However, mothers should also know the balance between work and family.
• They should dedicate an amount of time in spending time with the
children.
• Since the children’s school hours ends around the same time as most
working adults, both mother and child can spend time after school or work
together.
• In the end, it is still about placing family above work if the mothers ever
decide to start working outside of home.
7. Conclusion
• Mothers should be able to work outside of their home to bring in more
income for the family as it benefits the children as well when their mother is
working.
• Although this may differ from the traditional system of mothers staying at
home to care for their children, it is still feasible as many children end school
at a later time nowadays so if the mothers are back from work around the
same time as the child, mothers can still provide the same motherly affection
towards the children as before.
