Upgrades
1.
2. Bolt on upgrade kits
for the entire system.
They are designed
and manufactured by
Mopar, the official
supplier of Dodge
parts.
3 different levels are
available that each
build upon each
other.
(ATP Turbo)
3. It is recommended to
install hard pipes on the
cold and hot side of the
intercooler when
increasing boost in the
system.
Also there is a bottleneck
in the hard pipe on the hot
side that unnecessarily
limits air flow.
Hard pipes will enable
larger amounts of boost
and increase performance.
(Exhaust Depot)
4. The stock wastegate
opens at 4psi which
leads to inconsistent
boost and a drop in
top end power.
Upgrading the
wastegate will reduce
oscillation at high
rpms.
Many wastegates are
direct bolt-ons.
(JCS Speed)
5. Blow off valves (BOV)
relieve the back pressure
to the compressor when
the throttle is released
after boosting.
There is no major
performance upgrade for
installing an aftermarket
BOV.
A new BOV will provide
the typical turbo “snap”
sound that is standard on
most systems.
(JCS Speed)
6. The amount of cooling
provided by the
intercooler is directly
proportional to its size.
After significant upgrades
to the system it is
recommended to invest in
a larger intercooler.
One note of caution, do
not go for the absolute
biggest available because
if it is oversized it will
create a pressure drop
across the intercooler that
(Turbo Neon Store) will reduce throttle
response.
7. The more air that can pass
through the intake and
exhaust manifolds, the
more power the system
can create.
Porting refers to removing
material on the inside of
the manifolds to allow
more air to flow.
Porting doesn’t require
the purchase of new parts
but is recommended to be
(Circle Track)
done by a professional.
8. The pvc line from the
valve cover to throttle
body vents excess oil
pressure.
The oil will then enter the
combustion chambers
through the intake
manifold which is
dangerous and can lead to
detonation.
The catch can simply
collects all of the oil that
(BWoody Performance) passes through this line so
it can be removed at a
later time.
9. When increasing
performance in a car it
becomes vital to know
the exact ratio of oxygen
to fuel in the system.
O2 gauges monitor the
level of oxygen in the
system and
automatically adjusts
the fuel input.
In turbo charged
systems major damage
(Turbo Neon Store)
can be caused if the
ratio is significantly off.
10. Similar to porting the
intake and exhaust
manifolds, a larger
diameter exhaust pipe will
allow more air to exit the
engine which will increase
its performance.
There are many different
options and setups
available but one
recommendation is to go
with a 3” diameter pipe
(Turbo Neon Store) because it is the largest
that will fit with the
system.
11. The computers on cars
(PCM) are so advanced
that they can be
recalibrated to the desired
“tuning”.
“Tuning” is adjusting the
electronically controlled
engine parameters to
account for performance
upgrades.
Flash programmers will
override the stock settings
(Diablo Sport Tuning)
in the PCM to maximize
the performance.
