Saudi Arabia’s fight Against ISIS
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or rather ISIS can only be
understood well if the origin and formation principles are
sought. Zack’s article plays a role in showing the formation of
the group. ISIS was formed as an extremist group after the war
in Iraq started. The article illustrates that The United States,
Gulf monarchs such as Saudi Arabia have played a role in the
formation of ISIS. The article cites that ISIS is a movement
formed by Sunnis who felt oppressed in Iraq after the fall of
Saddam. They decided to hit back at Nour-Al Malik who
favored Shiites over Sunnis. Al Malik used Saddam’s laws to
demonize Sunnis and they had no alternative except joining
ISIS. Most Sunnis fear that Al-Malik will not treat them well
and he will always give preferential treatment to the majority
Shiites. The effect is to frustrate his governance. Over the
years, the Sunnis have been denied from demonstrating, going
for government positions, openly expressing their democratic
rights and even worship. They moved fast and joined efforts to
form ISIS as a way of fighting the Iraq government. The article
raises the question that the conflict in Iraq and Syria which was
propagated by the United States and Gulf monarchs such as
Jordan, Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Iraq Sunnis support the
ISIS, but the Saudi government is eliciting fears on the entry of
the movement into the nation.
Jonathan Broder’s article explains why Saudi Arabia fears ISIS.
He offers the rationale behind Saudi Arabia’s urgency and
response to eliminate ISIS. Saudi Arabia realized that all is not
well when General Ouda al-Behawi, a commander of Saudi
forces in the Northern region was killed by ISIS fighters. The
article points that ISIS must have received a tip from people
close to the General. Broder’s article raises the question on why
Saudi Arabians support ISIS. ISIS is supported by Saudi
Arabians in lower ranks see the movement as a champion of
Sunni’s rights, and will revenge against the corrupt royal
family. Broder’s article gives critical information on Saudi’s
airstrikes on ISIS strongholds. Senior intelligence officers have
gone to Washington to seek information and tactics on
countering ISIS. Saudi is also training more than 5000 Syrian
rebels to hit on ISIS. The killing of General Oudah sparked
Saudi Arabia’s war against ISIS, which involves many efforts
such as regional support and talks, fencing, among others,
which will be discussed in the paper.
Micah Halpen’s article pinpoints the need for unity in Arab
States in the fight against ISIS. Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia
must stand in a coalition and fight ISIS. The main role of the
article is to show the way shared intelligence is one of the most
critical points in eliminating ISIS. Arab nations must act as a
block or else ISIS will take up their states and lead with
extremism. The article also questions on the role of Iran in
fighting ISIS. Iran has always been on the forefront against ISIS
given that the nation is trying to be stable amidst many bans.
Obaid Nawaf’s article illustrates the role of Saudi Arabia in
pushing ISIS back from its border points. Saudi Arabia is one of
the most strategic nations that can fight ISIS. The article is
critical on the tools that can be used to fight ISIS. It suggests
that Saudi Arabia’s rulers must use their military to fight back
ISIS. Saudi Arabia has one of the well-trained militaries in the
Gulf States and it is time that they are used to contain ISIS. The
article cites that, the Gulf Monarchies must play a role in
eliminating ISIS. It threatens the stability of the region since it
is the epicenter of the Arab world.
Hugh Tomlinson’s article plays a role of showing one of the
most essential tactics that Saud Arabia will use in fighting ISIS.
To know how a movement operates, one must have some
intelligence about its leaders and the strategies. In this context,
Hugh’s article cites that Saudi Arabia has sent spies to infiltrate
the group. The spies will gather intelligence and relay it to the
head office in Riyadh for scrutiny and launch of attacks. The
intelligence gathered will be essential in targeting ISIS,
knowing its next move and responding adequately. The article
raises the question of how efficient will Saudi Arabia respond
to ISIS?
Gordon Michael who authors articles for the New York Times
has shown one of the main ways the Saudi Arabia is targeting to
eliminate ISIS. The United States had advised Saudi Arabia to
use its facilities to train a strategic army that will respond to
ISIS. The Anti-ISIS unit will be trained efficiently to counter
the strategies that are being used by ISIS. Saudi Arabia receives
major military support and training from the United States
including modern weapons of warfare and they are able to train
a force that will counter ISIS. The United States has also vowed
to support the equipping of moderate Syrian opposition with
military support to counter ISIS. The article suggests that ISIS
elimination needs a combination of strategies that are highly
effective and unrelenting.
According to an article by the Spectator, the United States State
Secretary John Kerry tied to rally for the support of building a
coalition. The article gives information on the need for a
uniform coalition and strike is needed to counter ISIS. Nations
must show support for each other. The article plays the role of
showing United States efforts in advising and empowering Arab
States in the fight against ISIS. John Kerry has visited Saudi
Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, and Egypt. He retaliated that the
United States is in full support of the fight again ISIS. A joint
vision is needed in terms of using human and artificial
intelligence, finance and economical means in sabotaging the
advancing and yet weakened ISIS. This article suggests the
points discussed in the meetings in support of the war against
ISIS.
PR Newswire article highlights the significant points and
strategies that were discussed in the John Kerry meetings. The
main theme of the meetings was rallying the United States and
Regional Arab Allies in fighting ISIS in its strongholds which
are Iraq and Syria. The Regional Allies include all nations in
the Middle East that are in support of the war against ISIS. In
the meeting, all nations agreed on using an all-round strategy
against ISIS. The article highlights critical information on the
strategies that will be used. These include screening and
identifying the financiers of the extremist group and others that
are a threat in the region such as Al-Qaeda and Taliban. The
other strategy is stopping and filtering the flow of persons and
immigrants across all borders. All people must be identified and
if not they should be sent to detention if their motives are not
clear. The other strategy is neutralizing the hate ideology of
ISIS and other terrorist groups. The states that face the most
ISIS terror should be supported and empowered. All ISIS
fighters that have been captured should be subjected to justice.
The sentences handed to captured ISIS fighters should be tough
to end impunity of the group. The nations should also help in
the reconstruction of the communities that have been damaged
by ISIS in the region more especially in Syria and Iraq’s
Northern Territories. All nations should contribute to
humanitarian relief. All the ministers in the Gulf region at the
meeting vowed to strengthen their resolve in fighting the group.
Hugh Tomlinson’s article plays a role in showing the way the
Saudi Royal family is involved in the war against ISIS. The
prince was involved in the bombing of the ISIS-held territory.
This illustrates that the war against ISIS is unrelenting. The
article gives critical information on Saudi Arabia’s warfare.
Saudi Arabia uses the best warplanes and drones to bomb ISIS
held territories. Saudi Arabia’s royal family has to show the
ISIS supporters and jihadists that they will win the war against
the extremist group. The Royal family is also involved in
supporting and raising funds against the group. The article
shows the involvement of the Saudi Prince in the bombings. It
sent a clear message to the sympathizers and funders of the
group within the country that the government is intolerant to the
existence of the extremist group.
National Public Radio Inc., held a conversation to illustrate
various issues surrounding ISIS and Saudi Arabia’s response.
The article plays the role of summarizing Saudi Arabia’s’ stand
against ISIS. ISIS is linked to Sunni Muslims. The Saudi
Arabian government supported the formation of insurgency
groups against Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980’s. The
Salafi Jihadist movement turned into Al-Qaeda, which
threatened the peace of Saudi Arabia. Today, ISIS threatens
Saudi Arabia in the same way and they must take action since
their stability is in jeopardy. ISIS have targeted the Holy Cities,
which are Mecca and Medina just like Al-Qaeda. The article
also shows that physically, Saudi government is building a
border fence on its border with Iraq. The fence that will be 600
kilometers long will be equipped with thermal sensors and
night-vision cameras that detect human movement. The cameras
will be combined with human sensors, alarms, razor wire
fencing and facilities such as watchtowers. Another measure
that Saudi Arabia has taken against ISIS is that it has
criminalized the group. Any person who supports the group
either publicly or privately is liable for prosecution. The
intelligence arm of the government is also investigating the
financiers of the group and its symphathizers. One of the
hardest things that the Saudi government is having problems
countering is that just like ISIS, they use Islam in governing
their nation. IT is therefore hard to delimit or denounce the
group completely given the support they get from Islamic
tenets. The article highlights that Saudi Arabia will spend huge
amounts of its oil money in investing in its own security and
countering ISIS.

Saudi Arabia’s fight Against ISISIslamic State of Iraq and Syr.docx

  • 1. Saudi Arabia’s fight Against ISIS Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or rather ISIS can only be understood well if the origin and formation principles are sought. Zack’s article plays a role in showing the formation of the group. ISIS was formed as an extremist group after the war in Iraq started. The article illustrates that The United States, Gulf monarchs such as Saudi Arabia have played a role in the formation of ISIS. The article cites that ISIS is a movement formed by Sunnis who felt oppressed in Iraq after the fall of Saddam. They decided to hit back at Nour-Al Malik who favored Shiites over Sunnis. Al Malik used Saddam’s laws to demonize Sunnis and they had no alternative except joining ISIS. Most Sunnis fear that Al-Malik will not treat them well and he will always give preferential treatment to the majority Shiites. The effect is to frustrate his governance. Over the years, the Sunnis have been denied from demonstrating, going for government positions, openly expressing their democratic rights and even worship. They moved fast and joined efforts to form ISIS as a way of fighting the Iraq government. The article raises the question that the conflict in Iraq and Syria which was propagated by the United States and Gulf monarchs such as Jordan, Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Iraq Sunnis support the ISIS, but the Saudi government is eliciting fears on the entry of the movement into the nation. Jonathan Broder’s article explains why Saudi Arabia fears ISIS. He offers the rationale behind Saudi Arabia’s urgency and response to eliminate ISIS. Saudi Arabia realized that all is not well when General Ouda al-Behawi, a commander of Saudi forces in the Northern region was killed by ISIS fighters. The article points that ISIS must have received a tip from people close to the General. Broder’s article raises the question on why Saudi Arabians support ISIS. ISIS is supported by Saudi
  • 2. Arabians in lower ranks see the movement as a champion of Sunni’s rights, and will revenge against the corrupt royal family. Broder’s article gives critical information on Saudi’s airstrikes on ISIS strongholds. Senior intelligence officers have gone to Washington to seek information and tactics on countering ISIS. Saudi is also training more than 5000 Syrian rebels to hit on ISIS. The killing of General Oudah sparked Saudi Arabia’s war against ISIS, which involves many efforts such as regional support and talks, fencing, among others, which will be discussed in the paper. Micah Halpen’s article pinpoints the need for unity in Arab States in the fight against ISIS. Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia must stand in a coalition and fight ISIS. The main role of the article is to show the way shared intelligence is one of the most critical points in eliminating ISIS. Arab nations must act as a block or else ISIS will take up their states and lead with extremism. The article also questions on the role of Iran in fighting ISIS. Iran has always been on the forefront against ISIS given that the nation is trying to be stable amidst many bans. Obaid Nawaf’s article illustrates the role of Saudi Arabia in pushing ISIS back from its border points. Saudi Arabia is one of the most strategic nations that can fight ISIS. The article is critical on the tools that can be used to fight ISIS. It suggests that Saudi Arabia’s rulers must use their military to fight back ISIS. Saudi Arabia has one of the well-trained militaries in the Gulf States and it is time that they are used to contain ISIS. The article cites that, the Gulf Monarchies must play a role in eliminating ISIS. It threatens the stability of the region since it is the epicenter of the Arab world. Hugh Tomlinson’s article plays a role of showing one of the most essential tactics that Saud Arabia will use in fighting ISIS. To know how a movement operates, one must have some
  • 3. intelligence about its leaders and the strategies. In this context, Hugh’s article cites that Saudi Arabia has sent spies to infiltrate the group. The spies will gather intelligence and relay it to the head office in Riyadh for scrutiny and launch of attacks. The intelligence gathered will be essential in targeting ISIS, knowing its next move and responding adequately. The article raises the question of how efficient will Saudi Arabia respond to ISIS? Gordon Michael who authors articles for the New York Times has shown one of the main ways the Saudi Arabia is targeting to eliminate ISIS. The United States had advised Saudi Arabia to use its facilities to train a strategic army that will respond to ISIS. The Anti-ISIS unit will be trained efficiently to counter the strategies that are being used by ISIS. Saudi Arabia receives major military support and training from the United States including modern weapons of warfare and they are able to train a force that will counter ISIS. The United States has also vowed to support the equipping of moderate Syrian opposition with military support to counter ISIS. The article suggests that ISIS elimination needs a combination of strategies that are highly effective and unrelenting. According to an article by the Spectator, the United States State Secretary John Kerry tied to rally for the support of building a coalition. The article gives information on the need for a uniform coalition and strike is needed to counter ISIS. Nations must show support for each other. The article plays the role of showing United States efforts in advising and empowering Arab States in the fight against ISIS. John Kerry has visited Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, and Egypt. He retaliated that the United States is in full support of the fight again ISIS. A joint vision is needed in terms of using human and artificial intelligence, finance and economical means in sabotaging the
  • 4. advancing and yet weakened ISIS. This article suggests the points discussed in the meetings in support of the war against ISIS. PR Newswire article highlights the significant points and strategies that were discussed in the John Kerry meetings. The main theme of the meetings was rallying the United States and Regional Arab Allies in fighting ISIS in its strongholds which are Iraq and Syria. The Regional Allies include all nations in the Middle East that are in support of the war against ISIS. In the meeting, all nations agreed on using an all-round strategy against ISIS. The article highlights critical information on the strategies that will be used. These include screening and identifying the financiers of the extremist group and others that are a threat in the region such as Al-Qaeda and Taliban. The other strategy is stopping and filtering the flow of persons and immigrants across all borders. All people must be identified and if not they should be sent to detention if their motives are not clear. The other strategy is neutralizing the hate ideology of ISIS and other terrorist groups. The states that face the most ISIS terror should be supported and empowered. All ISIS fighters that have been captured should be subjected to justice. The sentences handed to captured ISIS fighters should be tough to end impunity of the group. The nations should also help in the reconstruction of the communities that have been damaged by ISIS in the region more especially in Syria and Iraq’s Northern Territories. All nations should contribute to humanitarian relief. All the ministers in the Gulf region at the meeting vowed to strengthen their resolve in fighting the group. Hugh Tomlinson’s article plays a role in showing the way the Saudi Royal family is involved in the war against ISIS. The prince was involved in the bombing of the ISIS-held territory. This illustrates that the war against ISIS is unrelenting. The article gives critical information on Saudi Arabia’s warfare. Saudi Arabia uses the best warplanes and drones to bomb ISIS
  • 5. held territories. Saudi Arabia’s royal family has to show the ISIS supporters and jihadists that they will win the war against the extremist group. The Royal family is also involved in supporting and raising funds against the group. The article shows the involvement of the Saudi Prince in the bombings. It sent a clear message to the sympathizers and funders of the group within the country that the government is intolerant to the existence of the extremist group. National Public Radio Inc., held a conversation to illustrate various issues surrounding ISIS and Saudi Arabia’s response. The article plays the role of summarizing Saudi Arabia’s’ stand against ISIS. ISIS is linked to Sunni Muslims. The Saudi Arabian government supported the formation of insurgency groups against Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980’s. The Salafi Jihadist movement turned into Al-Qaeda, which threatened the peace of Saudi Arabia. Today, ISIS threatens Saudi Arabia in the same way and they must take action since their stability is in jeopardy. ISIS have targeted the Holy Cities, which are Mecca and Medina just like Al-Qaeda. The article also shows that physically, Saudi government is building a border fence on its border with Iraq. The fence that will be 600 kilometers long will be equipped with thermal sensors and night-vision cameras that detect human movement. The cameras will be combined with human sensors, alarms, razor wire fencing and facilities such as watchtowers. Another measure that Saudi Arabia has taken against ISIS is that it has criminalized the group. Any person who supports the group either publicly or privately is liable for prosecution. The intelligence arm of the government is also investigating the financiers of the group and its symphathizers. One of the hardest things that the Saudi government is having problems countering is that just like ISIS, they use Islam in governing their nation. IT is therefore hard to delimit or denounce the group completely given the support they get from Islamic
