As a Certified American Red Cross Health and Safety Instructor, Kathleen
offers a variety of Red Cross courses and certifications, including Adult, Child
& Infant CPR, AED Training, Babysitter’s Training, Bloodborne
Pathogens/Preventing Disease Transmission, CPR/AED for the Professional
Rescuer, Chokesaver/ Restaurant Emergencies, Oxygen
Administration, Instructor Training and more.
Classes are held at your location, and at your convenience. Kathleen offers
exceptional service, scheduling flexibility, a single point of contact, consistent
quality instruction, and reduced costs, for clients throughout eastern
Massachusetts.
Each class includes American Red Cross materials, booklets, videos and
manikins. Information is presented in a clear, concise manner intended to
give participants not only the appropriate skills and knowledge, but also the
confidence to respond to an emergency situation.
2. Adult, Child, Infant CPR/AED
Participants will be given the basic skills and knowledge to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in
Adults, Children and Infants until advanced medical help arrives. Participants will learn how to:
Recognize and respond to an emergency using the American Red Cross emergency action steps
Prioritize care, recognizing life-threatening conditions
Recognize and care for shock
Care for conscious and unconscious choking victims
Recognize the signals of a heart attack and perform CPR
Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) on an adult victim of sudden cardiac arrest
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross CPR/AED
certification valid for one (1) year.
Courses are offered in any combination of Adult/Child/Infant skills to suit your needs:
CPR/AED Adult: Cost $55
CPR/AED Child & Infant: Cost: $55
CPR/AED Adult plus Child Cost: $60
CPR/AED Adult plus Child & Infant Cost: $65
First Aid Basics can be added to any class for an additional 2 hours and $20 per student.
3. Standard First Aid
The purpose of the Standard First Aid course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills
necessary to give care in an emergency, help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or
sudden illness until medical help arrives. Course objectives include:
• Provide basic care for bleeding, burns, and injuries to muscles, bones and joints
• Identify the signals of shock and describe how to minimize its effects
• Identify the signs and symptoms of sudden illness including stroke, diabetic emergency, poisoning and
allergic reactions and describe how to care for them
• Identify the signs and symptoms of heat-and cold-related emergencies and describe how to care for
them
• Indentify the signals of head, neck and back injuries and how to care for them
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross
Standard First Aid certification valid for three (3) years.

4. Epinephrine Auto-Injector Training
The purpose of this course is to teach lay responders the skills and knowledge necessary to
recognize and provide care to a person experiencing a breathing emergency until advanced
medical personnel arrives and takes over. This module includes the demonstration of an
epinephrine auto-injector. Course objectives include:
• Identify the signals of anaphylaxis
• Describe the care given to a person experiencing anaphylactic shock
• Describe the appropriate assessment and documentation of the person’s repsonse to an
epinephiren auto-injection
• Describe how to report the event of an allergic reaction and your care to emergency
medical services personnel
• Demonstrate appropriate handling, use and disposal of an epinephrine auto-injector
• Describe appropriate documentation
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red
Cross Ephnephirne Auto-Injector Training certification valid for one (1) year.
Hours: 1 Cost: $20 per student
5. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and
Health Care Provider
This course teaches those with a duty to act (professional rescuers/healthcare providers) the skills
needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an
automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim of cardiac arrest.
Objectives
– Identify the responsibilities, characteristics and legal responsibilities of a professional rescuer.
– List the series of events that occur when the emergency medical services (EMS) system is activated.
– Recognize and provide appropriate care for breathing emergencies, including cardiac arrest, and other life-
threatening injuries and illnesses.
– Demonstrate how to perform rescue breathing (adult, child, and infant).
– Demonstrate how to use a BVM with two rescuers.
– Describe when and how to give CPR and use an AED for an Adult, Child and Infant
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross CPR/AED
for the Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider certification valid for two (2) years.
Hours: 8 Cost: $80 per student
6. Bloodborne Pathogen Training/Preventing
Disease Transmission
The purpose of the American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease
Transmission course is to teach employees in a workplace:
– How bloodborne pathogens are spread
– How to help prevent exposure incidents by following work practice controls, using engineering
controls and personal protective equipment, practicing good personal hygiene and properly
cleaning and disinfecting equipment and supplies; and
– How to recognize, report and follow up on employee exposures to infectious materials.
This course has been developed with guidance from the Federal Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) to comply with the training component of OSHA’s bloodborne pathogen standard.
This two-hour training module is designed for individuals who, while on the job, may be exposed to blood
or other body fluids that could cause infection.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross Bloodborne
Pathogens Training certification valid for one (1) year.

8. About the Instructor…
Kathleen Irving has been an American Red Cross volunteer and trainer since
2002. She has taught for a variety of clients – from small day care centers, to
large construction teams; from private dental offices to Fortune 100
companies – with consistently positive reviews. Prior to her health and safety
training career, Kathleen worked for a Boston-based worldwide public
relations firm where she managed a wide variety of training programs. When
not conducting training, Kathleen gets lots of First Aid practice by caring for
her active family including three adventurous children.
