2. Alfred Hitchcock
• Alfred Hitchcock was one of the of the first
thriller-horror directors around and is
considered as the godfather of thriller movies
as his made the first few in his days
• He has also developed a lot of techniques i.e
motifs as well as characteristics as well as
narratives.
• Alfred was the developer of proto-horrors
being the first of many to start this type of
genre of film
3. Rear Window
This is a movie created by Alfred Hitchcock in 1954. The
movie is about L.B. Jeffries also known as Jeff who is a
magazine photographer who broke his leg and now has
a cast on his leg. He got put on a wheelchair and spends
his free time looking out of rear windows and due to the
fact that he lives in a flat, he spies on a multiple amount
of his neighbours using his binoculars since they keep
their windows to help them stay cool. Later on in the
movie, he discovers suspicious activity from one of his
neighbours in which he thinks that the man murdered his
wife.
4. POV
• POV stands for point of view
• It is usually used to represent the character within
a situation or moment and allows you to see from
their view as well as their personal perspectives
• Rear window is one of the first movies to
incorporate that type of shot into a film and it
was then on used to give somebody the feeling
that they are in the same position as the person
within the film
• This type of shot can give the perception or
illusion that we the audience actually are taking
part in the current events going on throughout
5. Sexual Objectification
Women were sexually objectified throughout the movie.
This has been done through the act of voyeurism and
scopophilia. For instance, Jeff mostly spends his time
mostly looking at the ballet dancer played by Georgine
Darcy. However, most people would think that he does
not have power since he is in a wheelchair. Although,
due to the fact that the woman did not that she was
being spied on which therefore gives Jeff power within
the film. The fact that the point of view shot was used
when spying on these girls, it makes us feel the we are
two spying on the girls without them knowing as well.
