3. THE MARATHA EMPIRE

Maratha confederacy was a
dominant empire which play
ed an important role in fall
of Mughal Empire.
4. Shivaji’s Birth
Shivaji was born on 19th Feb
1630,on Shivneri fort.

5. Shivaji’s Teenage
As a commander of Bijapur,Shahaji was deputed in
Deccan after 1636 and didn’t see Shivaji for many years.
-Shivaji and his mother remained in Pune where Shahji’s
colleague Dadoji controlled the Dynasty’s Administration.
-As a teenager and a devotee of Ma Bhavani, Shivaji
started administrating independently against the advise of
Shahaji and the Ghorpades.
He captured several forts and started calling himself
the God of Marathas
6. Education and Training
-Shivaji’s primary training included reading and writing,
horse riding,swordfight and devotional practice.
-Dadoji noticed Shivaji’s courage and accounted a
personal teacher who taught him strategy plannings
and military tactics.
-He was deeply influenced by the heroic tales of
Maharana Pratap and Maan Singh Tomar.
-He grew up with a figure of courage for the Marathas
and became an eyecathing warrior.
7. Shivaji’s married life
-Shivaji married eight wives whose names were-
Saebai,Soyarabai,Putalabai,Sakvarbai,Sagunabai
Kashibai,Laxmibai and Gunwantibai.
-Saebai is believed to be Shivaji’s most beloved
Wife.
-Shivaji became parent of four children-
Sakhubai,Ranubai,Ambikabai and Sambhaji raje
8. Shivaji’s life as a king
-Shivaji was a great leader who reformed the society
by avoiding casteism and recruiting soldiers from all
backgrounds.
-This enabled him to freely face the Mughals ,Siddhis,
Dutch, French, Portugese and the British.
-He believed in the idea of ‘Swaraj’ which clearly
suggested him a devotional warrior who fought
for Hinduism.
-He was the first Indian to build a powerful Navy

10. Administrations-
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj introduced the ‘Ashthapradhan Mandal’
nown as council of eight ministers who had helped him administer
is kingdom.
Shivaji was not only a courageous warrior but even a good
iplomat who established diplomatic relations with Spanish
nd Chauhan Rajputs.
Shivaji respected women and made separate laws for them.
11. Shivaji’s death
Maratha leader Shivaji died at 12 noon at Raygad in 1680
by having a body pain.
He died by having complex body pain on Hanuman Jayanti
After Shivaji’s death his son, Sambhaji became the next Chatrapati
