International-Ski-Resort/675), a National 4A-Level Scenic Area, lies 200
kilometers east of Harbin and 120 kilometers west of Mudanjiang in Shangzhi
City, Helongjiang Province. It is the best ski resort and the biggest
comprehensive snow training center in China, which was built during Qing
Dynaty as the hunting ground for feudal emperors.
The resort was originally built in 1980 and is affiliated with Heilongjiang
Physical Culture and Sports Commission. In 1996 the 3rd Winter Asian
Games was held here along with numerous the National Winter Games and
other national and provincial competitions. Now it serves as the primary
training venue for China’s national teams. It also has a trail vertical drop from
200 meters to 1, 200 meters with an average drop of 700 meters.
The whole ski resort is surrounded by mountains with dense forest and and
thick snow, being the spectacular scenery. The resort consists of two main ski
areas: the competitive section and the leisure skiing section. What worth
mention is the alpine competitive skiing section which reaches an altitude of
1,374 meters .While in the leisure skiing section, the highest altitude is only
about 1,000 meters which is comparatively safe for leisure skiing. There is
also a German built slide where tourists can enjoy sliding down from the top of
the snowy mountain. Doing skiing on the slide is easy and safe, bringing
skiers a thrilling experience.
Except for the high mountains, the resort also provides great skiing with snow
of high quality. The lowest temperature is -47.2 F. in winter there and snow
falls down for a long period of about 170 days because of the high elevation.
The snow is neither too hard nor too powdery, on which tourists can enjoy a
pleasant ski. The period from November to late March of the next year is the
best time to ski at Yabuli Ski Resort.
