Ever had questions on what to look for before buying a premium WordPress theme? Or what about some really cool social media plugins that not only make it easy to share your content but also encourage more comments and return visitors. This presentation was put together by Jean Perpillant of Design Theory to answer those questions for you. 2. Buying Premium Themes
Premium themes are awesome because they look more like
traditional websites than they do blogs. There are tens of thousands
out there from theme houses like Woo Themes, Theme Forest, Mojo
Themes and more. Prices typically range from $20.00 - $85.00
However it needs to be said that each theme is only as good as it’s
developer. Not all developers have a mind for UX, or full customizing
capabilities.
– Look for an XML dummy content file
– Widgetized home page
– Mulitple page layouts/templates
– Mulitiple color options
– Responsive action/design

3. How This Can Help You
Whether you like it or not Social Media is a necessity for just about all
websites. With the help of social media, you’re content can reach an
audience of people that traditional marketing could not achieve at
the level of effort you’re putting in. Why not harness that with your
own personal or business website.
When it comes to social media, always think of it in the perspective
of your audience. Your website experience and content is for them.
– Make it easy to read
– Make it easy and familiar to share
– Stay with the current and popular social networks
– Engage with your audience

Probably my personal favorite social network because of how
random you’ll come across people who can quickly pick up a
conversation like you’ve known them for a long time. Twitter is great
for sharing short links and pieces of information. Whether its breaking
news, tech support answers from your ISP or desktop support
company, to celebrity gossip and news.
– Tweet new or old posts automatically
– ReTweet button for blog posts
– Post from Twitter to your Facebook Fan Page, or Linked In
– Sidebar Timeline Widget
– Download free content with a Tweet
– Twitter to chat from your WordPress site

Facebook for your personal website or business isn’t always
necessary, but can surely help. One of the main things people focus
on is how many “Likes” they get and how many comments they get
per post. If you’re already posting on your WordPress site often, there
are some automation tools to help leverage your time while still
seeming authentic. Thankfully there are a host of plugins for
WordPress to help with this.
– Get more “Likes” to your Fan Page
– Use Facebook for comments
– Schedule posts to your Facebook Page
– Create custom tabs, call to actions to Facebook
– MUST: Use the Facebook widget box on your page

YouTube pretty much changed the game in America’s Funniest
Home Videos. You can upload videos from your desktop, laptops,
iPads, and mobile phones and share it with the world. Imagine if your
professional interviews, product reviews, tutorials, and more were
being viewed by the 2.4 Million monthly active viewers of this social
network.
– Use plugins to easily embed your videos to your posts and pages
– Combine with social media plugins/buttons for easy sharing
– Link your blog/website to your custom YouTube Page
– Show multiple videos on your page, or sidebar

8. Plug-Ins
A word of caution with plugins; use at your own risk. They’re updated
only by the developer, not by WordPress.
