This is a presentation that I did for our group recently.
It was a really brief presentation and fun to do.
It is actually based on a scenario where a woman is stranded on an island and this is how to best utilize her resources by our determinations.
I generally put movies and/or sound into my presentations because it really gets peoples attention right off of the bat - even if it something simple like I did with the intro to this one.

Day Two<br />Fishing <br />Four Hours<br />A Day and a half<br />Of Food<br />Make a Fire <br />Two Hours<br />Start Making Clothes<br />Two Hours<br />It takes a total of <br />4 hours<br />Fishing<br /> 2nd priority<br /> Needed for Life<br /> Need by the end of the day<br />Fire<br /> If Amy like’s her food cooked<br />Clothing<br /> task may be split over 2 days <br />

Day Three<br />Finish Making Clothes<br />Two Hours<br />It takes a total of <br />4 hours<br />Build a Signal Fire<br />Four Hours<br />Fishing<br />Two Hours<br />Clothes<br /> Started yesterday, finished today<br /> optional in the tropics<br />Fire<br /> for showing her location <br />Fishing<br /> now has enough from yesterday & today<br />

Resources<br />Knife<br /> It is her original tool<br />Spear<br /> What she fabricated to help collect her food.<br />Water<br /> a must have resource for survival<br />Food<br /> another must have for survival<br />Fire<br /> optional but a cooking necessity. <br />Clothing protection from the elements<br />Amy<br /> She is also resource, the most valuable one<br />
  6. 6. Risks<br />Death<br /> from starvation, malnutrition or beasts<br />No Rescue<br /> She could be stuck here a very long time<br />Injury<br /> What happens if she takes ill or gets injured<br />Insanity<br /> for some people to not have contact with anybody else<br />
  7. 7. Technology<br />Nothing that we would consider technology.<br /> a knife to build with<br /> a spear to hunt and fish with<br />No <br /> Cars, Boats or airplanes<br /> Cell phones or transmitters<br /> TV, Cable, Internet, Radio<br /> Electricity<br />Sanitary Facilities<br /> would be difficult to construct<br />
  8. 8. Opportunity Costs<br />Clothing<br /> Pass on clothes for a couple of days in return for shelter before the storm <br /> Or she could eat her fish cold on day two and make it all in the second day<br /> It is the tropics and she is alone…clothes can really be optional.<br />

Scarcity<br />Stores<br /> Cannot just go to the local market for food or the Mall for clothes<br />Communications<br /> No phones nor radio nor TV<br />Housing<br /> None but what she makes<br />Tools<br /> Just what she carried (?) with her<br />Other People<br /> there does not seem to be anyone else here<br />
  10. 10. Economics<br />Allocation of Resources;<br /> 8 hours a day to work<br /> How she budgets her time will determine<br /> what goods she gets in return<br />She has to conserve her energy<br />
