2. ALBANY PARK: A Brief History
Began as a small
farming community on
the North West side
of Chicago.
Initially settled by
Swedish and German
families before 1912,
when Russian Jewish
immigrants settled
there.
Now contains a large
Korean, Swedish,
German, and Jewish
Population.
4. Attractions
The Chicago River runs right
through Albany Park, and
offers peaceful riverwalk
opportunities along its banks.
Flea Markets/ Farmer’s
Markets are always a fun way
to see the area and those
who live in it.
Food is everywhere! Ethnic
restaurants include
Japanese, Chinese, Thai,
American, Mexican, Middle
Eastern, etc.
Cafés are also a huge part of
the culture in Albany Park,
including First Slice, where
our group went.
5. How To Get There
Red Line from the
Loyola stop to
Belmont
Transfer (go under
tracks) to the Brown
Line to Kimball
Get off at Francisco
6. Reflection!
Our group as a whole found
this neighborhood to be
extremely beautiful and
peaceful. We went on a cool
autumn night, and it was the
perfect weather for the
occasion!
We were pretty surprised that
such a calm area could exist
in such a stereotypically
bustling city as Chicago.
We truly felt that this was an
Authentic Chicago
experience, because
although it wasn’t downtown,
it still held much of the same
history and the same
authentic diversity that
Chicago has to offer.
