Today on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, we are stacking the themes up from the last 2 weeks and remind everyone to continue to live lives of peace and hope, and today to rejoice, for the Kingdom of God is already here, even though not yet.
6. 11:2 When John heard in prison
what the Messiah was doing, he
sent word by his disciples
11:3 and said to him, "Are you the
one who is to come, or are we to
wait for another?"
11:4 Jesus answered them, "Go and
tell John what you hear and see:
11:5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the
deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them.
11:6 And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me."
7. What is the message for TODAY?
During uncertain times, even the great falter:
John asked a reasonable question, he wanted to
know…
Jesus assures John’s disciples by quoting results
Then…
Jesus assures all who puts faith in Him…
What does this mean to us today?
8. 11:7 As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the
crowds about John: "What did you go out into the
wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind?
11:8 What then did you go out to see? Someone
dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes
are in royal palaces.
11:9 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I
tell you, and more than a prophet.
9. What is the message for TODAY?
Where do you go in search of truth?
Jesus knows that you need to move away from the
things of the world and towards the things of God
What does this mean to us today?
10.
11. What is the message for TODAY?
Jesus assures the people:
1. John is the real deal: his identity, purpose,
mission, etc
2. Even then, the others in the Kingdom of God
(meaning, his hearers and the rest of us)
have equal and even greater responsibilities
and tasks to accomplish for Him
12. What is the message for TODAY?
We REJOICE (JOY) during this
time of the now and the not yet!
• The Holy Spirit is already here….
• Jesus is coming
• His Kingdom is already here
• Yet it is not fully here
• We who are serving, continue …
