2. JCB, one of the world’s top three construction
equipment makers, plans to transform its
Indian operation into a global manufacturing
hub for South Asia and Middle East markets.
The company has started export of excavators
to Indonesia and plans to export its complete
product line, including backhoe loaders,
shovels, handlers, cranes and compactors.
Apart from India, JCB makes machines in
Brazil, China, UK and the US.
3. PFIZER has recalled a drug made by an Indian partner
after receiving a warning from the American drug
regulator for violating manufacturing norms.
It has recalled three batches — about 2,000 bottles — of
Albon, a bacterial infection drug for animals, after an
investigation found the presence of Penicillium
Chrysogenum in some samples.
The recall is classified under FDA’s Class III recall,
which means the use of the medicine is not likely
to cause adverse health conditions.
4. Coal India, the world’s largest coal producer, is in
talks to acquire mines from two US companies,
Peabody Energy and Massey Energy.
The company, which last month raised $3.4 billion
in the nation’s biggest-ever initial public offering,
has near-mossssnopoly control of India’s coal
market.
Peabody Energy has 9 billion tonnes of reserves.
Massey Energy accounted for 20% of United States
coal production in 2007.
5. Electronics and appliances-maker Sharp Business
Systems India entered into the mobile handset
market.
The handsets were designed with an eye on youth
in the age group of 16-30 years in urban and semi-
urban areas.
The mobile handset market in India grew by 4.2
per cent in terms of total revenue in 2009-10.
6. Sunil Mittal's Bharti Airtel is going in for a mega
brand change of Airtel for which the company will
spend Rs 300 crores.
The way Airtel is written may also change, it is not
expected to have a capital 'A' under the new brand.
The red colour, though, will still be dominant in
the new brand.
The brand makeover is done to give Airtel a more
youthful look as it gets more global in it's
approach.
