2. Thrillers we analysed In class and at home we were told to analyse thriller film openings, taking into consideration, camera angles, graphics, sound, narrative and mise-en-scene. The films that I looked at were: Seven Law abiding citizen Silence of the lambs Jaws Red eye State of play
3. How we chose to do our thriller As we am used to watching thrillers involving police officers and criminals, we didn't want to follow this, we wanted to do something different and take a more psychological approach to making the opening, to be different to the current trend in thriller films.
4. Content When making our thriller we had to follow a specific criteria to stick to so that our thriller can be the best it can be, we had to stay away from the first thing that entered our minds and think outside the box, therefore we weren’t allowed to use any weapons, stalking or attacking scenes as this is to stereotypical and we wanted to make the audience think more about the story line. As our film is a fifteen we had to make sure that the content was suitable for the viewers that would be watching it.
5. Conventions The conventions we decided to follow were Transformed city (fit other thrillers) Mazes and labyrinths (chasing round the house, house is a maze) Concealment and protraction ( dont see killer)
6. Different to analysed thrillers Our thriller was different to the ones that I analysed because the ones that I analysed were about police officers
7. How would we distribute our film We think mainly viral distribution i.e. on you tube or similar website; this sort of distribution is very popular at the moment. I do not think our film would make into a mainstream cinema as we do not have the time or budget to compete with other films, if any cinema it would be a very small one specializing in low budget small films. I do think it would be possible for our film to be digitally distributed, but only on a small scale.
8. Distribution The kind of media institution we would like to see our film would be for demonstration uses for people trying to make low budget films and it would be great to see it on television on a channel like film 4. I think as our film is very small and would not attract a lot of viewers the best way would be to target people trying to create a similar product, such as university or college students looking to make a film.
9. How our film compares to professionally made thrillers I think as our film is very small and would not attract a lot of viewers the best way would be to target people trying to create a similar product, such as university or college students looking to make a film. Our work doesn’t compare to professional work as they have years to make a film and can choose the best actors around to star in it, also they have huge budgets to work with to choose locations and props ect.
10. Problems or difficulties? We didn’t have any problems with the costumes or props and we think the lighting overall was good, in one shot there was a natural flickering of a light which we decided to keep in our final product. The film did differed from what we planned but we kept the storyline and most of the shots the same all we did was change a few shot angles to add variation. We did not have any technical problems, the sound, lighting and camera was fine also we didn’t have any difficulties with an actor.
