Portfolio Assignment
For five our units, we will have to fill out reflection sheets for this portfolio assignment.
Three of the five units are the “Career Life Project” the “Personal Income Tax Form” and the “Design and
Measurement” units. The other two are our choice.
**For all of these reflections, we will have to include samples of work. Example: for the “Personal
Finance” unit, we could attach a sheet with a Gross-Debt Service Ratio calculated out to figure out if a
person should purchase a house. Or, you could attach another piece of work.
For each reflection, there are two parts: A and B
Part A: “Explain how this sample connects to everyday life.”
-1st paragraph (of two to three sentences) give background information
For the example of calculating the Gross-Debt Service Ratio, you would talk about mortgages
and how they allow a person without the money to buy a whole for cash, to get a big loan from the bank
and pay it back slowly.
-2nd paragraph (of two to three sentences) give information about how your sample work helps with the
topic you talked about in the 1st paragraph
For the example of calculating the Gross-Debt Service Ratio,you would explain how calculating
the GSDR helps to advise whether or not the mortgage you would take on would be too much for you to
afford or if it would be affordable.
-3rd paragraph (0f 2 to 3 sentences) talk about how you plan to use this information in the future.
Part B: “THE MATHMATICS connection.”
-explain the math involved (i.e. converting % to decimal, multiplying, dividing, adding, etc...)
-staple your sample work onto this page

1. Pick your unit and lesson #
2. Prepare a “sample of work” on a separate sheet of looseleaf
3. Write out part A
4. Write out part B
5. Put back in hanging folders in class
