NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or for
disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

2. Use Tooling (A) to remove engine oil filter (1).

3. Disconnect hose assembly (2). Remove bolts (4). Remove engine oil filter base (3) and the
oil seal.

4. Remove engine oil cooler (5) and the gasket.

Engine Oil Filter Base and Oil Cooler - Install

Installation Procedure

1. Install the gasket and engine oil cooler (5).

2. Apply clean engine oil to the oil seal. Install the oil seal in engine oil filter base (3). Position
engine oil filter base (3) over the engine oil cooler. Install bolts (4). Tighten the bolts in a
numerical sequence. Connect hose assembly (2).

3. Install engine oil filter (1).
4. Fill the engine with coolant to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance
Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

a. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove
and Install".

1. Remove bolts (4).
2. Remove bolt (3).
3. Remove bolts (2) and remove engine oil pump (1).
4. Remove the O-ring seal that is located between the cylinder block and the outlet elbow.

5. Remove bolts (7) and remove outlet elbow (8).
6. Remove bolts (5). Remove oil pickup tube (6) and the gasket.

7. Remove bolt (12) and the washer. Remove idler gear (11). Use Tooling (A) in order to
remove bearing (10) from idler gear (11). Remove shaft (9) from engine oil pump (1).

Start By:
a. Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump -
Remove".

1. Remove the bolts from tube assembly for pickup tube (1), and the gasket from the engine oil
pump. Remove the bolts and outlet elbow (2) from the engine oil pump.

2. Remove bolt (3), the washer, and idler gear (4) from the engine oil pump.
3. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to remove the bearing from idler gear (4).
4. Remove shaft (5) of engine oil pump from oil pump body assembly (7).
5. Use Tooling (B) to remove drive gear (6).

6. Remove bolts (10). Separate oil pump body (9) from oil pump body assembly (7).
NOTICE
Before removing the drive shaft from the pump housing, be sure that
no burrs exist on the drive shaft. If the drive shaft has burrs on it, the
bores in the pump housing may be scratched.
7. Remove shaft assembly (8) and shaft assembly (11) from oil pump body (9).

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring
pressure.
Spring force will be released when covers are removed.
Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
8. Remove the following items from oil pump body assembly (7): oil plug (14), spring (13)
and oil pressure relief plunger (12).

NOTICE
1. Ensure that all of the parts of the engine oil pump are thoroughly clean prior to assembly.
Note: Lubricate all internal parts of the engine oil pump with clean engine oil.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
2. Install oil pressure relief plunger (12) and spring (13) in oil pump body assembly (7). Install
oil plug (14).

3. Install shaft assembly (11) in oil pump body assembly (7).
4. Install shaft assembly (8) in oil pump body (9).
5. Position oil pump body (9) on oil pump body assembly (7) and install bolts (10).

6. Press drive gear (6) on shaft assembly (8) until drive gear (6) is flush with the end of shaft
assembly (8).
7. Install shaft (5) of engine oil pump on oil pump body assembly (7). Install the bearing in
idler gear (4) with Tooling (A). Install the bearing so the distance between the hub bolt face
of idler gear (4) and the bearing is 0.75 ± 0.25 mm (0.030 ± 0.010 inch).
8. Install idler gear (4) on shaft (5) of engine oil pump. Install the washer and bolt (3). Tighten
bolt (3) to 70 ± 15 N·m (52 ± 11 lb ft).

9. Check the condition of the gasket that is used in tube assembly for the pickup tube (1). If the
gasket is damaged, replace the gasket. Install the gasket and tube assembly for the pickup
tube (1).
10. Check the condition of the O-ring seal that is used in outlet elbow (2). If the O-ring seal is
damaged, replace the O-ring seal. Install the O-ring seal and outlet elbow (2).
End By:
a. Install the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump -
Install".
