The document discusses the importance of career planning. It notes that today's youth will likely experience many job transitions over different sectors. Effective career planning is presented as a dynamic process that involves understanding oneself, setting goals and taking action. 2. Why Plan ?
Most of the UK’s youth today are likely to
experience:
• An average of 17 employment transitions
• A variety of occupations in up to five
different sectors of the economy
• A variety of concurrent work roles
• Planned and unplanned gaps of no work

6. In 1979, interviewers asked new graduates
from the Harvard’s MBA Program and found
that :
84% had no specific goals at all
13% had goals but they were not committed to paper
3% had clear, written goals and plans to accomplish them

7. In 1989, the interviewers again interviewed the
graduates of that class.
The 13% of the class who had goals were
earning, on average, twice as much as the 84
percent who had no goals at all.
Even more staggering – the 3% who had
clear, written goals were earning, on
average, 10x as much as the other 97 percent
put together.
