- An effective powerpoint has simple pictures that support what the speaker is saying. You don’t want complicated slides distracting the viewers from your presentation.
- Your presentation should not have too many words on it because that will bore the audience. Some of the best slides may have no text at all.
- You do not want to have too many effects or animations on your slides. Some animations can make your presentation seem non professional.
- A high quality photo is the key to a good slide. There are many free high resolution pictures available on the internet. Never stretch a low resolution picture to fit into the slide.
- You need to have a common theme throughout your presentation. Try to stay away from the generic PowerPoint templates and use something unique.
- Do not include too much data on your charts. You do not want to overwhelm the viewers with too much data. You can also use tables to organize your information.
- Pairing cool and warm colors with each other is a great way to use color. If you are presenting in a dark room, a dark background with light text is most effective and vice versa for a light room.
- You should use the same font throughout your presentation. Make sure you keep the text simple and that it is easy to read. Do not pick any crazy fonts.
- Use video clips to show examples of your topic. Video clips can be inserted directly into powerpoint. Audio clips can be very effective but stay away from cheesy sound effects.
