19. Cuba is a perfect example of a country
where consumerism has not been allowed to
exist. Because of the US trade embargo,
many consumer items have not been

El Caso de Cuba
20.
21. As you may know, recently the United States has
reestablished a more friendly relationship with Cuba.
The U.S. embassy in Havana has been reopened and it
is no longer illegal for US citizens to travel from the U.S.
to Cuba as long as they are travelling for business or
educational purposes. It will be interesting to see how
these changes will affect consumerism in Cuba in the
years to come.

Editor's Notes
Use this video as the hook at the beginning of class. Have students complete the following sentences:
En el video hay…
Es sobre…
Creo que el video es (finish with adjective - hand out adjective lists from Amy Lenord - 1B students already got them.)
Show 2-3 times. Do as think-pair-share
Have students view images - give input and describe them
Have students work in groups to complete this organizer. Ideally they will be able to incorporate some of the words that we discussed in the wants and needs lesson. Give 5 minutes or so for them to work and then share some possible answers.
Based on the discussion we had about consumerism, have students write what they think the girl is saying. Then, share them out on the board.
This is what she is really saying
So, know we know what it is. What are the consequences?
Talk to sts about where Cuba is located. Small COMMUNIST country. Island. South of Florida.
