We are filled with Greed and Dissatisfaction for this life. Let the Naga Sadhu explain you the nuance of present day life. Conversation worth remembering and sharing!
1. Conversations With Naga Sadhus
In Hinduism Sadhu means a religious ascetic or holy person. Most of the sadhus are Yogis,
but not all yogis are sadhus. Sadhus dedicate their life to liberation (moksha) through
meditation. Sadhus mostly wear saffron colored clothing. It symbolizes their renunciation
(sanyasa).

Naga Sadhus
The naga sadhus practice non-violence presently contrary to what they are well known for.
Some sections of them even participate in wrestling. Naga sadhus play vital role in kumbh
mela. They are considered more fearful and dangerous among the sadhus. But I was
fortunate enough to talk with one of the naga sadhus. I was very anxious and horrified in
the beginning. Although it was the other way round. It was 11’o clock in the morning, with
hungry stomach and thirsty throat I was literally dying to find a place to relax sinc e I’m new
to mumbai. Then there was happiness inside me because I found an eatery, though very
small. A person came and sat beside me. It took less than two seconds to caught attention
of this person because we won’t find such people in a city like mumbai. Greed persuaded
my fear of speaking with sadhus. But, I wasn’t sure that this conversation is going to
change my thinking and attitude towards life. I firmly believe that Amish Tripati with his
trilogy has already made me an ardent bhakt of Shiva. It took less than fifteen minutes to
realize I chose right person as my mentor.
Conversation with Naga Sadhus
Most of the people don’t know why sadhus or aghori won’t mingle with common crowd or
why they like smokin weed. I myself don’t know the reason behind it . I greeted him and
was very eager to shoot out my questions at him. But from what I knew about their fiery
looks I was hesitant to ask. Then came the perfect moment. He started talking about the
traffic in mumbai and explained to me the nuance of mumbai traffic with funny gestures and
memes. It created a friendly atmosphere between us and then it wasn’t a problem for me to
ask doubts regarding their way of life and principles. I asked the million dollar question,
“Why do you people smoke weed and what it does to you”. He smiled and said, “I have met
many youngsters and foreigners and I remember many of them asking the same question.
This is how people and media around the world portray us. But there is something even you
2. couldn’t understand. We even stop eating food for years and dedicate our lives praying lord
shiva and only depend on marijuana. Why don’t you ask questions on why we don’t prefer
food? See this is what happens with the world. All they need is negative energy and there is
no place for positive thoughts inside their heads. So do you think I have given up all worldly
activities like social life, government job (Yes, he worked as a health inspector) and family
to smoke weed and terrorize people. You pretty well know the answer. But you don’t think
in the way I explained because you are one among many people who believe orthodox
activities. Lord shiva has passed onto us Tantra which we never misuse for personal
benefits. We are ardent followers of him and simple way of leading his life. Looks like I’m
lecturing you, but this is not we actually do. I slipped into this worldly world for a second.
Have a pleasant life. Om Namah Shivayah!”
A Trip To Mind From Heart
Life is Living
This is not the answer I expected, I thought he would simply say we smoke weed just
because it increases concentration. His way of talking left me bewildered. Why do we have
to listen crap lectures by people who think they have achieved so much in life which they
think is real. I prefer listening to failures. Although I’m not suggesting sadhus are failure. As
per our baseless fanatic assumptions, most of us think that those who can’t do anything
with their life give up and become sadhus. Well, the time has come we should see other
side of the coin. May be it can take another life if there’s one. I’m filled with greed and
dissatisfaction for this life. So are you.
