Received a request
form for HPE from the
Department of ENT on
7, March 2023.
47/F presented with
swelling on right side of
neck since 2 years.
Mass was excised by
neck dissection
alongwith level II and III
lymph nodes and was
sent for
histopathological
examination.
3. On CECT – There was evidence of well defined
round heterogeneously enhancing mass lesion
measuring 2.4 x 2.5 x 3.3 cm, in right carotid
space causing splaying of right internal juglar vein
and right common carotid artery.
Possibility of neurogenic tumor likely
Schwannoma was made.
4. Gross examination
We received three labelled containers-
Container I ( labelled as excised tissue mass):
Received grey white to hemorrhagic partially
encapsulated tissue mass measuring 3.3 x 2.5 x 1.8
cm. Cut section shows grey white to hemorrhagic solid
homogenous appearance.
Container II ( labelled as level II nodes) : Received 2
grey white soft tissue piece altogether measuring 2.8 x
2.5 x 0.5 cm. 5 lymph nodes identified ranging in
diameter from 0.5 cm to 1cm.
Container III ( labelled as level III nodes) : Received
single soft tissue bit measuring 1.5 x 1 x 0.5 cm.

Dense eosinophillic hypercellular Antoni A area is seen with spindle cells arranged
in cellular intersecting fascicles
Areas show palisading of nuclei with central nuclear free zones forming Verocay
Bodies
8. 100x magnifation
Hypercellular Antoni A area is seen alongwith loose, hypocellular Antoni B
area having spindle cells spread apart by prominent myxoid extacellular
matrix .
