1. IB ART Media Blitz
IB year 1
Mr Dorofy
Through the next 10-week marking period you are be exposed to and learn how
to work with each medium that is available to you here in the art room. During
ths “media blitz”, expect to work with a lot of different types of mediums and
numerous techniques in a relatively short period of time. The goal of this “blitz”
is to get you acquainted with the largest range of media, and to begin your
experience with the investigation workbooks, and work to develop independence
as it pertains to creating works of art.
With each medium that we study you will learn about the tools and basic
techniques while experimenting and documenting the processes in your
workbook. During this investigative process you will also learn about the
Elements of Art and Principles of Design and how to implement them into your
work. For each medium we study you will have one full class period to create a
small work of art that demonstrates a basic understanding of the tools and
techniques.
Getting Started:
For the next 10 weeks you will focus on creating compositions from a variety of
sources. With each piece our goal is to improve compositional design while
applying a specific medium and process to a work of art. You will view a variety
of works of art and experiment with techniques in your research workbook and
then complete a studio piece to demonstrate your understanding.
Each piece will be generated from a variety of still life, digital photographs, and
Internet resources; however, you cannot simply copy from an image…because
that is plagiarism!
Our first class period will focus on the most basic skill necessary for an artist
which is their ability to sketch. Knowledge of this skill will set you up for the
