2. Total Quality Management
Our problem area is our computer labs of campus. And we are going to implement Japanese 5S
methodology to fix all problems which all students face while availing computer labs.
There are five primary 5S phases: sorting, straightening, systematic cleaning, standardizing, and
sustaining.
I. Sorting
Lab Administrator:
Lab administrator should be changed because every administrator is not much qualified in his
field. They can not maintain each computer working.
Hardware:
Remove all old keyboards and mouse which are having balls. Replace them with new ones so
that each student can feel comfort while using computers of labs.
Software: All applications are not applicable.
In every computer essential and updated software’s are must be installed like java, MS office
2010 etc.
II. Straightening or Setting in Order
Pen drives ports should be assessable in all computers so that every user can easily put
his pen drives in the computers and can transfer his data in that. Due to this they can save
a lot of time.
Make sure that all anti viruses and anti malwares in computers of the labs are updates
daily so work can be done safer, effectively and efficiently. This will also save students a
lot of time.
III. Sweeping or Shining:
User’s Systems:
This computer system should be clean in physical appearance and it helps in attracting
students and also gives good impression to visitors like HEC inspection team or it also helps as
marketing point of view that COMSATS WAH CAMPUS has high tech and modern computer
labs. When there is a need of up gradation or repair work is needed so proper hardware allocated
area helps in locating hardware and easily lab administrator find out and install that part in the
system.

IV. Standardizing:
Lab Computer Systems Standardization:
All departments have the same specification systems for average users means management
science students have same computer systems as engineering students have for daily purpose
usage and their performance must be satisfactory, all administrators have same job description
that they have to serve students as they are serving to faculty member computer system because
in this modern era computer is the soul for advance studies and real weapon for student if they
want to utilize so university administration must take charge on less standard computer systems
condition in management sciences department lab and there must be strict check on lab
administrators.
V. Sustaining the Practice
To maintain this new way of operation following steps must be taken under consideration
The maintenance team must establish the policy of check and balance after a set period of
time.
The technology used should be up to date e.g. the infrastructure used in the labs should
not be old.
Develop a facility of complains and students feedback about the environment so that
continuous improvement in the labs can be done easily.
