The document discusses tangible interaction design and how it relates to space and place. It presents a framework for designing tangible interfaces that are embedded in real space. The framework focuses on how tangible interfaces take up physical space, how users must move through real space to interact with them, and how interactions can become performative when observable to others in shared spaces. The framework also addresses how software defines virtual structures while physical space defines physical constraints, and how allowing bodily rituals can enhance user experiences. An example project of a mobile app for exploring an historic estate is discussed in the context of the design framework.

It presents insights into the design process acquired during the implementation and evaluation of an interactive art installation for two very distinct public environments. Issues of scalability, robustness and performance became progressively interwoven with the concern of creating an overall user experience sustaining consistent high engagement levels. Contextual factors such as audience size, dimensions of the interactive space and length of exposure to the artwork had to be handled gracefully in order not to interfere with the interaction flow. Adopting a research by and through design approach, the work uncovered a series of findings that are pervasive to the design of adaptive interactive experiences.

physical and virtual elements enhances the perception of the
working environment, providing a more enriched collaborative
task experience. While revealing intriguing potential across
various sectors, wearing head-mounted displays (HMDs) can pose challenges in communication and in understanding others’ behaviours. This paper analyses the main elements of collaborative
augmented practices through the case study of Hololiver, a MR
system developed to assist surgeons in planning laparoscopic liver surgeries. The work discusses guidelines for designing interfaces
to preserve awareness in MR interactions.
This design space explores supporting collaborative exploration of self-monitored information through varying degrees of proximal interaction based on the level of personal interaction between the partner and the user. The scale moves from most intimate to least intimate.

Understanding the Privacy Implications of Using Context-based Awareness Cues ...Ville Antila
Information from the physical world is increasingly being digitalized and shared in social networks. We share our locations, tag photos and add different kinds of informal awareness cues about the physical world to our online communities. In this paper, we investigate the privacy implications of shared context cues in social networking services. We present an experimental mobile application, which allows users to add different descriptions of context information to their Facebook and Twitter status updates. The application was used by 12 persons during a two-week user trial using their own devices and Facebook accounts. The results indicate that user-defined abstractions of context items were often preferred over more accurate indicators due to privacy concerns or discomfort in sharing. We also found out that using shared context from friends in vicinity needs careful design to overcome the extended privacy implications.
