At moist places around backyards and at wet hill stations, you must have seen formation of
molds. You may not know as to what it is actually but have thought on seeing that it is certainly
not pleasurable for your eyes. Here’s a quick look on some facts about mold in actuality.
Molds are basically microscopic organisms found inside as well as outside the houses. It is not a
plant or an animal but is surely alive. Mold is kind of a fungus which is also used in saving lives.
One such kind is penicillin which is an antibiotic. Molds expand through a process where airborne
spores of mold burst out and land on other surfaces. There they enlarge and live by developing
clusters for them. They expand by getting water and oxygen. Hence, they are extensively found in
moist places or regions. There are more than 100000 mold species present of which some are
harmful while some are not.
The types of household molds are Cladosporium, Penicillium, Aspergillus, Alternaria and Mucor.
Toxic molds are three kinds that are not common and cause some serious health hazards. They
are Stachybotrys, Memnoniella, Acremonium and Mycotoxins.
If you are wondering how to remove molds that have been formed inside your home on a
cleanable surface then washing that surface such as tiles and metals with hot water and soaps
should give adequate results. Also bleach solution can be used to clean the surfaces that are
vulnerable to molds. Post washing they should be dried completely. Also disinfecting molds by
using mold cleaners gives great results. Post cleaning the area should be dried off completely.
Molds also cause many health hazards. In a minute the lungs can inhale seven hundred
thousand spores. However, it is possible to prevent all kind of molds. The ways in which they can
be prevented are as follows. Proper ventilation in order to reduce humidity should be done. Rain
water leakages and water damages should be treated promptly. Cleaning of showers and pipes
should be done regularly as they are the places where molds develop. Plants should be kept
outdoors and not indoors. Air purifiers should be used invariably in houses. In order to remove
molds, the materials having mold spores should be exposed to sunlight. The susceptible ones
include cushions, mattresses, wood and fabrics. Also all objects should be exposed to sunlight
regularly as a practice.
Now that you know about mold, you should also know that it is advisable to not stay in
environments that are free from molds, viruses and bacteria. Living without them is not
recommended at all because they give a boost to immunological systems in our body.
