2. It is a shame that politics prevailed in creating Obamacare while
ignoring the initiatives that could actually have safeguarded the
health of American citizens. Contradictory to initial forecasts,
Obamacare will skyrocket healthcare costs and ultimately result in
reduced access. Even though the Supreme Court has found a
roundabout way to uphold Obamacare (it is a tax that was not
passed as a tax), my hope is that when people realize that
Obamacare will increase the deficit by trillions of dollars in
additional costs, and healthcare will be less accessible and
demoted in quality, that the people of the U.S. and their
representatives will find a reasonable alternative. If instead of
Obamacare, Congress reformed malpractice rules, opened state
borders to insurance competition, prevented insurance denial on
the basis of pre-existing conditions, and provided coverage to the
uninsured based on raised taxes on alcohol and cigarettes, two
luxuries that have significantly increased healthcare costs, the high
level of healthcare in this country can be preserved and can be
accessible to all, and the significant deficits we will be facing could
be avoided.
