2. Carlos Paredes, (February, 1925 – July 23, 2004) was a
Portuguese guitar player and composer, born in Coimbra. He
began playing at the age of four and started his music career
when he was eleven. He performed with many other artists
including Charlie Haden, Adriano Correia de Oliveira, Carlos
do Carmo and also wrote compositions for Fado singer
Amália Rodrigues. He was internationally known during the
20th century because of his songs.
3. During the 1950s and 1960s,
being member of the
Portuguese Communist Party,
he was imprisoned for
opposing the Portuguese
dictatorship,. He spent some of
this time in solitary
confinement. He used to walk
around his cell pretending to
play music which led some
prison inmates to believe he
was insane.
