What is Guar??

Guar or cluster bean is a leguminous plant whose chemical name is Cyamopsis
tetragonolobus, grown as a fodder crop and used for the gum obtained from its
seeds. Guar leaves can be used like spinach and the pods are prepared like
salad or vegetables. Its beans are very nutritious.

What is Guar Gum??

A gum obtained from the ground endosperm (a tissue produced inside the
seeds) of guar seeds, used as a thickening, stabilizing, or emulsifying agent in
foods, pharmaceuticals, and industrial products.
Guar Gum is used in various Industrial applications:
a) Textile industry - sizing, finishing and printing.
b) Paper industry - Improved sheet formation, folding and denser surface for printing.
c) Explosives industry - As waterproofing agent mixed with ammonium nitrate,
nitroglycerin, etc.
d) Cosmetics and toiletries industries - Used as a thickener in toothpastes, conditioner in
shampoos.
e) Medical institutions, especially nursing homes - used to thicken liquids and foods for
patients with dysphagia.
