This document describes a case study of aligning information literacy standards with curriculum requirements for dietetics students at Virginia Tech. The study embedded information literacy instruction into a communications course for dietetics students. The instruction aligned the Association of College and Research Libraries' information literacy standards with the competencies required by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. Students conducted research on social media and nutrition topics, which helped them develop skills in locating, evaluating, and using information to accomplish purposes related to their future careers. Assessment found that students improved in evaluating information and keeping current on developments in their field. The collaborative, authentic project engaged students with the research process and helped prepare them for professional practice.
