With over 1.4 million commissioned active personnel, India's armed forces are the fourth largest in the world. Also, as of now India has currently become an emerging 21st-century power. However, stuck in the rut of 20th-century conflicts, which is constraining India's defence posture and reducing India's military capability.

century power. However, stuck in the rut of 20th-century conflicts, which is constraining
India's defence posture and reducing India's military capability. India's defence
technology must evolve and change in response to global technological advancement.
There are two basic points in this agenda:
Change Is Necessary
Many substantial and major improvements have occurred in India's defence technology.
These have not only assisted the soldiers and officers commissioned, but also assisted in
making a clear message to the enemies. The message being that India's defence
capability is no less and will never be. Recent talks with Russia, Japan, and practices
with Australia, have all aided in this technological development . Our Indian government
has also strived and has taken many strong steps to inculcate the change in the Indian
Defence forces. The major one has been, that the Indian government had raised the FDI
limits in September 2020. It has been done in order to boost defence manufacturing in the
country and make it a reliable arms supplier to friendly countries.
Opening The Constraints
The 20th century groove had lead to mismatch and therefore force restriction. Now, these
constraints have been broken thanks to the ever-increasing technology in the armies. Not
only do the forces defend well against local threats , but India's defence posture is now
more conducive to outward-facing forces as well. The recent standoff with China has
prompted us to reinforce our defence postures. Italso has to be repetitively made clear
that India's armed forces are well-equipped and maintained for credible levels of warfare.
Overall, India's armed forces, which had previously lagged behind the rest of the world,
are now at par. Along with, aiming for even greater excellence.
