2. INTRODUCTION
“There is nothing constant except
CHANGE”
This paper brings to you The Conceptual
Changes which has made the Begg
philosophy and mechanics undergo the
phenomenal metamorphosis.

4. Controversy in treatment Philosophy
Different treatment Approach
Inadequate finishing
Tipping & torquing not self limiting

BEGG PHILOSOPHY

5. No posterior torque control
Tooth movement is rapid
No true intrusion of upper incisors
Elastics overuse
Arch form

13. In the year 1990 Barry Mollenhauer of
Australia introduced this SPECS (Spec – Tacular)
Auxillary, which is also known as AN ALIGNING
AUXILLARY FOR RIBBON ARCH BRACKETS,
which has a combination aligning effect from a
multi-looped wire and very light torquing effect
from a torquing auxillary.

14. FABRICATION
- Tweed’s Plier (Flat Beak Plier)
- 0.009” Supreme Wire
- The wire is held atleast
one inch from the Plier
- Height about 4 mm
- Width varies according to the Teeth
www.indiandentalacademy.com
15. -The Supreme wire has a very high tensile
strength & brittleness
-The base arch wire is .O18” Premium plus SS
wire-with high tensile strength and less
resiliency
www.indiandentalacademy.com
18. - Generate very light root moving forces
- In reciprocal torque divergence of adjacent rectangles
should not be more than 45 degrees
REQUIREMENTS
www.indiandentalacademy.com
19. - Resist Deformation
- Base Archwire should resist vertical & transverse
reactive forces
- Main Archwire is engaged piggyback over MAA
www.indiandentalacademy.com
20. -Overbends may be given in between
the rectangles
-The MAA is formed into a curve
ACTIVATION
-Mollenhauer
www.indiandentalacademy.com
21. - Due to In-availability of Cermaflex pins-need for
modification
- The rectangles were made gingival to produce
palatal root torque (Inside the circle)
- Made into curve with base legs cross over each
other
- Interbase span may also be curved slightly
-Dr.Jayade

23. BIO-MECHANICS
The M / F ratio for bodily alignment is one and this
is attained by MAA – According to Mollenhauer
www.indiandentalacademy.com
24. -Expansion, Derotation & Vertical Leveling
-Braking Mechanism
-Labial root Torque for Lower Incisors
-Labial root Torque of Upper Incisors in Class III
Cases
-MAA tip using Ligature Wire
MODIFICATION

25. MAA TIPS
MAA is used here for uprighting teethwww.indiandentalacademy.com
26. - Efficacy
- Efficiency
- Reciprocality
- Less Time in Stage III
- Stability
- Periodontal Advantages
- Concomittant Intrusion
- Attachment Flexibility
- Tidiness
ADVANTAGES
www.indiandentalacademy.com
27. - Root Control from Stage I
- Ultra light Torquing & Uprighting Force
- Prevents Uncontrolled Tipping
- Stage III made Shorter & Simpler
- To bring Instanding teeth into the arch without
Periodontal Affectation
- Canine Roots abutting against the Labial
Cortical Plate
