Dreams are made and realised at the Institute of Management Technology, Centre for Distance Learning
(IMT-CDL), as Guru Prasad has proved. A technical manager working in the digital systems labs, Samsung
India Software Operations, Bangalore, Guru acquired a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, after which he
pursued an advanced post graduate diploma in Systems from IMT-CDL. At the end of his journey with
IMT-CDL, he had achieved what he had set out to: managing a team in the world’s largest consumer
electronics company. “Today, my heart tells me that I made a bold but correct decision by joining IMT-
CDL,” says an elated Guru.
Studying through correspondence is indeed a challenge and makes a student both self-reliant and
enterprising. Guru supplemented the excellent course material in the textbooks with references and
research from the internet. “If I had any doubt, I searched for a topic online and read about it till I was
satisfied with the answers,” says Guru. This aspiring manager of large teams in tier 1 companies says
IMT-CDL is student-friendly when it comes to examination schedules and has a good syllabus with
excellent access to an online library and journals.
Now, with a few years of work experience behind him, Guru has a few pointers for budding managers to
excel in their jobs. “Working hard and smart, developing good communication skills, managing work
flow effectively and learning risk management skills are necessary to excel in one’s job,” says Guru, who
started his career working with Tata-Elxsi in the product research and development team. He later
joined Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions and this gave him a good opportunity to work
on car multimedia software. “I was surprised at how Germans work and excel in the automobiles field. I
loved German culture,” says Guru.
But now, working in Samsung India also has its advantages. “For one, it has given me an opportunity to
work on core technologies. Second, the company is a stickler for time and wants all employees to stick
to time. Third, the company pays salaries promptly at the end of the month,”says a satisfied Guru, who
sometimes gets upset when project schedules go off track. He considers that his best achievement so far
as he has been working on various Samsung products which are out in the market, as these make life
easier for the common man.
“There is no end to where you can reach if you have the will and enterprise. For working professionals,
distance education makes this possible,” says Guru, who is all praise for IMT-CDL. “IMT-CDL has
improved a lot in the last few years.The online examination schedule offers students convenience of
time and place,” says Guru in conclusion.
