1. Opening Speech
by Mr.Bat-Erdene Jalavsuren, Chairman of the
Information, Communications Technology and Post Authority,
Government of Mongolia
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Guests,
Good evening to you all and thank you for coming to this “ICT Cocktail Party” by
accepting our invitation.
We have convened you here for several reasons. This party aims to build an ICT
partnership networking through friendly handshakes, face to face meetings and open
discussions.
First, I am happy to inform you that, this year, Mongolia is celebrating the 90th
anniversary of ICT sector and we are organizing a number of events dedicated to this
anniversary.
For instance, in coming May, we will be organizing “ICT National Policy Forum” to
assess the achievements of the sector and to identify ICT development vision for
2021, and subsequently “ICT EXPO” which is the biggest gathering of the sector’s all
stakeholders.
In July, we are hosting two international events. ICTPA and International
Telecommunication Union are organizing the “Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on
Cooperation Mechanism for Emergency Communications” in early July in
Ulaanbaatar in cooperation with UNESCAP, and Asia Pacific Postal Union is
convening in Mongolia for its Executive Committee Meeting late July. And many
other events will be organized.
And this gathering is one of the important events of our ICT sector’s birthday
celebration and I am grateful to be celebrating a part of this occasion with such a
distinguished group of guests and colleagues.
2. Secondly, taking this opportunity, I would like to share with you how Mongolia is
striving to better develop ICT in order to bridge digital divides not only in the country
but also worldwide.
Thanks to cooperation and partnerships with your organizations and your countries,
our sector has made considerable achievements in the past by contributing to
accomplishment of our country’s commitments of Millenium Development Goals.
I would like to outline that Mongolia has productively benefitted from cooperations
and partnerships in infrastructure development, sector reform and liberalization,
regulatory establishment and capacity building.
Through these benefits, the people and businesses of Mongolia are getting pleasures
from ICT development in our country. For instance, it may be noticed by you partners
that basic telecommunication services based on different technologies such as
wireline, wireless and mobile have been delivered nationawide. As we will have a
brief video presentation on our sector, I skip naming all figures and indicators how
the sector is doing.
Thirdly, our sector’s development greatly relies on private sectors. As the ICT
services are deeply penetrating in all spheres of economies, national and foreign
private sectors investment and partnerships are growing a lot. We are working actively
how to attract and favor private sectors to be further encouraged in the future
development and contribution. Therefore, your ideas and initatives are important to
roadmap mutually beneficial partnership networking in near future.
Lastly, I would like to call for your cooperation and support for building a friendly
partnership networking not only in the ICT sector but also in any social and economic
sectors to narrow digital and development divides.
Any partnership ideas, initiatives, proposals even critisizms will be welcomed.
Once again I appreciate you all for coming to this party and feel compfotable enjoing
our hospitality.
Thank you for your kind attention.
