10. Overall I found this trailer interesting to analyse as it is very iconic of the horror genre
and is a really good example of an older horror film that broke boundaries of traditional
genre stereotypes. For example the high key lighting being used to create a feeling of
uneasiness and shock factor is something we’d like to incorporate into our own pieces of
work. Although this genre is very different from the one we have chosen to create, I think
that this analysis has helped me to understand more about the differences between sub
genres of horror – even though we will not be using some elements for inspiration such as
the bright green filter, we will be inspired in terms of the fast paced cuts and editing.
Henry Jenkins said ‘ genre should not be understood as rules or restrictions’therefore we
want to make our trailer as original and creative as possible which we feel that SAW did,
as at the time, this type of film was ground breaking.
