ASSET MANAGEMENT IN THE MIDDLE EAST
9:00 Asset Management Sector in the Middle East:
Opportunities & Challenges
• Asset management: What has been successful and why
and what are the issues which have resulted in the
“reluctant investors”?
• What do you think is going to excite investors to allocate
some of their investment cash?
~ A country/region focus – Africa/Asia/Europe
~ A structure – hedge fund/mutual fund/ Undertakings

(UCITS)
~ The fund domicile – UAE/DIFC/Cayman/Dublin/Lux
~ The fund manager – Do we have the concept of star
managers in the region?
• What strategies are currently being worked on and what
is needed to be successful?
• Will the new regulations around funds help generate
interest – e.g. – non executive directors/fund approval
process/passporting etc?
• What would be the top three items in place which would
help double the size of the fund industry across the region
– e.g. fund passporting, more regulation, less regulation
• What should be removed?
