Research Findings – Report
The purpose of making a film trailer research was because it has
helped me understand many techniques and skills to make sure
that I make a successful trailer myself for my coursework. Normally
the target audience target don’t tend to pay attention to the
music in the beginning of the trailer this is because the music flows
in with the clips of the movie which makes the audience listen to
the actors voices and to see what is happening throughout the
trailer. This goes to show that a lot of hard work and effort is put in
just to make a 4 – 5 minute trailer.
In my trailer I must know what the codes and conventions are, I
am doing a romance film trailer this means that it will be a typical
trailer where there is a ‘happy ever after’ but it may not be
because the audience obviously tend to predict or guess what
will happen in the trailer.
The research procedures that I took were that I had to use the
Internet most of the time. This was because majority of my work is
all uploaded onto a blog which is: http://haverstockmedia.com
All my work I have done so far is put onto this Haverstock media
page. I have put all my work in order from the oldest piece of
work at the end pages and newest work at the beginning.
I have been using search engines which include searching for
trailers fan sites, IMDB, YouTube, Google and finally the blog etc.
I decided that my research was relevant because it has allowed
me to look further into what film trailers are and how I can make
my own just as good as a real trailer. YouTube plays a big role in
my media coursework this is because I use youtube for majority of
my work. However one of the problems I have to face as a
student is that if I would be able to film in certain places. For
example in my trailer I have a scene where the settings are
placed in a hospital. This is one of the relevant parts because I
must know if I will be able to shoot that scene. This depends on
me to search and look for a hospital which will allow me to film in
their premises.

The work I do is then uploaded to the site where all my work is put.
This website allows all my work to be stored safely online. This also

is where it can be organized without having all my work be put
anywhere else. It is also a better way to store work, as it is online
and is less hassle on paper. Papers and books can get some
things lost and it must be kept safe.
I have organized my work on the Haverstock media website. This
is because I have uploaded all the work I have done so far; all my
work is put into unit 5. This gives me a chance to have all my work
neatly organized without having to look through work constantly.
This is something that is easier, rather than going through pages
and papers, which could make everything stressful.
What I have discovered about film trailers are that all the snippets
and clips that are used are not always shown in the actual movie.
This may be because they add lots of effects and editing to
change things and to make the trailer look good. Without the
editing and the software, trailers wouldn’t look very professional. I
have also discovered that in my film genre (romance) these
trailers are kind of predictable and that they use these traditional
storylines.
I have learnt that the characters are all different and that they all
have different personalities. This also means that there are
different locations and settings to all movie trailers especially
when you think that all romance genre movies are the same but
their not.
What I have learnt from the audience is that most of them like
similar movie genres and films. This may have been because I
have chosen a group of people who like the same movies /
genres. What I should have had done is to get a wider range of
audiences and also if I had extra five more people to fill out my
questionnaire I would have had twenty people taking part in the
questionnaire altogether. This would have allowed me to look
further more into getting more detailed and different varieties of
answers from the audience. I have also learnt that I shouldn’t give
a questionnaire to a group of people who are going to answer
the same things.
What I have learnt from my questionnaire is that I should have
asked different groups of people and not just my friends. I have
also learnt that I should have asked questions that required a lot
of thinking and that I could have added extra questions for the
questionnaire so it could to seem a little bit harder. Also questions

that don’t require a lot of thinking means that the questionnaire
wouldn’t take as long and that it would only take up to 5 –
10mins.
My findings will help me make my own trailer look very good. This
is because I have put in a lot of time and efforts into doing my
coursework which will eventually make my own trailer just as
good as a real professional trailer.
My findings will also help me in my trailer by me listening to what
people have to say and what they would like to see in the trailers.
It will also be better if I get advice from the older students on how
they made their trailer and if people enjoyed it. This is something
that is really important to people in the film industry because
peoples voice matters this is because they are the audience and
without the target audience, the trailer wouldn’t be as good.
Finally I will be talking about a bibliography. A bibliography is a list
of books of a particular author or publisher, or an exact subject.
(Google definition) but instead I have given a list of the sites I
have used to make my report.

talking about my own research, which I’ve

Relevance: It is relevant because this research has allowed me
to answer all the questions to the best of my ability
because these all had to be found on the internet.
