This document proposes an idea for a short film that challenges gender norms. It involves two teenagers getting ready for a date. The girl shaves her hairy legs and armpits, then glues the shaved hair to her face, before putting on a suit. Meanwhile, the boy puts his hair in a ponytail, shaves a stubbly face, and applies nail polish and makeup, before leaving for the date. Cross-cutting shots are intended to confuse the viewer about the gender of each person preparing. The film aims to be provocative and mess with concepts of gender and beauty.

1. Idea 2: Gender bending date

2. • This idea messes with ideas of gender binary and concepts of beauty, following 2
teenagers/young adults getting ready for a date. Cross-cutting between the 2
preparing. I want it to be challenging.
Things seem normal, as a girl checks her phone, there is a text saying something like
"really looking forward to seeing you tonight", and replies accoringly. She heads to
the bathroom and shaves her very hairy legs, then things seem less normal as she
then goes to trim her very hairy armpits. Then she smears a glue-stick over her face,
and glues the hair she's just shaved off to her face (might change this to just paint
stubble onto her face with an eyebrow pen). She puts on a suit or dress (not sure
yet), checks her phone and heads out for the date. maybe sprays her body in axe
deodorant?
The boy puts his hair up into a pony tail (from behind so at first you assume its a girl),
and sends the girl the text, then gets the reply, then also heads to the bathroom, and
begins by shaving a slightly stubbly face. Then he puts nail varnish on (this in close-
up, so at first you assume its the girl) and then make-up (also close-up at first so you
think its the girl). then heads out to the date, not sure what he'd be wearing.
