5. Collaboration and Networking
• Presented the following to ACCM as immediate potential areas for
collaboration:
1. Scientific, Data and Information Visualization technologies for manufacturing,
innovation, insight and policy making
2. High Performance Computing-HP Simulate Complex problems and solve
(Kyoto has HPC, Kenya has 4 undersea Internet Cables-Good Internet
connectivity)
3. Capacity Building-train short JICA training, MSc and PhD
4. Student & Staff Exchange
5. Joint research projects of mutual/common interest
5
6. Tech and Knowledge Application plan
1. Scientific visualization can enable determination of causality of many observed effects with the help of data.
eg Agriculture, health, climate change and transport.
2. Strengthen training, research and innovation.
3. Improve utilization of data – eg iCEOD open research data, Kenya Open Data to support policy formulation
and implementation, innovation, UN SDGs
4. Apply FEMAP Engineering Software to improve design and innovation in manufacturing sector and Building
Construction Industries.
5. Propose establishment of a Fabrication Laboratory at our Industrial Park with 3-D Printers that will be fed
with designs tested by this engineering software (FEMAP. Target reuse of waste material in order clean
environment. Create new start-up companies with low risk of failure due to better product quality and hence
create job opportunities and wealth for our people.
6. Location is important in climate change. Use ArcGIS to visualize several data sets for purposes of building
solutions to specific problems as well as informing policy formulation and implementation processes.
7. AFRICA –ai-JAPAN Task Force Project committee of JICA Kenya expect ICT Centre of Excellent and Open Data-
iCEOD to facilitate ICT technology transfer gained through this training to both JKUAT and PAUSTI staff and
students.
