Self concept is different from self esteem.
A person’s self concept in his knowledge about himself.
This includes his likes, dislikes, temperature, etc.
On the other hand self esteem is the attitude we have towards
ourselves.
Self concept does not have Any value judgement.
Facts about ourselves are reported.
Self esteem refers to how much we like ourselves.

The key difference between self concept and self esteem
is the addition of feelings.
Self concept is simply the informational side of things,
where you facts about what you are like.
Self esteem means how you feel about those things you
know, for eg, whether you enjoy that you are talkative ( high
self esteem) or you think that you annoy people by talking
constantly (low esteem)

Self esteem means how much we value ourselves.
It is an overall evaluation of our own worth.
If I judge myself positively ,then I have a positive or a high
self esteem and vice versa.
7. CASE STUDY
Aditya is from a Marathi medium school and is very conscious of
his spoken English skills especially when he sees English medium
students speaking fluently. He tried to answer question in class and
was ridiculed and laughed for his language. The information he
draws is that he is not good enough if he is not able to speak the
language fluently and in the process he changes his interactions with
the world around him. He stops communicating in class and appears
to be shy withdrawn.

Low Self esteem : low self esteem is a hopeless condition that keeps
individuals from realizing their full potential.
A person who has low self esteem, feels incompetent unworthy, and
incapable.
In fact, person with low self esteem feel poorly about themselves and
these feelings make the person remain with continuous low self- esteem.
SHILLING (1999) states that low self esteem is a trait of financially and
unsuccessful people, which in turn results in low risk taking ability.

High self esteem : People who have high self esteem generally feel good about
their ability to participate, confident in social situations and happy with the way.
Generally they are confident, they have a good sense of self worth, they are
positive, encouraging and supportive to other and they possess good
communication skills.
They are extroverts energetic, ambitious, and they learn from their mistakes.
These things give them strength and flexibility to take charge of their lives and
grow from mistakes without any fear.
