Thomas Edison was born in 1849 in Ohio to parents Nancy and Samuel. He struggled in school and was homeschooled by his mother. As a child, he worked selling newspapers on trains and overcame scarlet fever without medicine. Edison had a talent for invention and created the light bulb, electric pen, and phonograph, becoming famous for introducing these innovations that transformed people's lives and ability to work, write, and listen to music after dark.
