Hey guys my project is about some of the industrial Leaders in the late 19th century. My report is about a man name Thomas Edison. You all probably heard the name before or know something about him or what he did to change the world forever.
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in a small village in Milan, Ohio. He was the youngest child out of seven. When Edison was seven, his family moved to Michigan and started a lumber and grain business to make a good living for the family. Thomas struggled a lot in school so his Mon educated him. Math was he worst subject but chemistry he loved. In his teens he sold candy and newspaper on trains. He had his own laboratory in his garage. He became a telegrapher himself at age 16 to get to know more about it. During these years, he began to suffer from deafness. Printed and published "The Weekly Herald," the first newspaper ever to be type and printed on a moving train. The picture at the top was when he was around 12 and the one at the bottom are his parents.
One ofThomas Edison's best inventions was the electric light which was one of his greatest challenges. It was a light bulb which had a long lasting source of light. Another one was the Edison’s motion picture which was a peep-hole motion picture viewer. One last invention was the sound microphone which recorded your voice and can play it back Pictures: On the left is the electric light bulb. On the right is the motion picture and at the bottom is the sound microphone.
Edison’s electric generator consistof the large central power plant with its generators with wires connecting the plant to other buildings; the wiring, switches. The phonograph was a machine that would transcribe telegraphic messages through indentations on paper tape, which could later be sent over the telegraph repeatedly. Pictures: Left is the phonograph and right is the electric generator.
In World War I the federal government asked Edison to head the Naval Consulting Board, which examined inventions submitted for military use.In the 1920s, Edison's health became worse, and he began to spend more time at home with his wife. His relationship with his children was distant, although Charles his son was president of Thomas A. Edison, Inc., his company. While Edison continued to experiment at home, he could not perform some experiments that he wanted to because of his health.Pictures: Him and Henry Ford talking. Bottom is him and his family.
According to me Thomas Edison is the father of modern inventions. He is a great inventor because all his inventions was to help other people not just himself. He was also a genius because the way he thought about the world all the things around him and how he can improve it and make it better.
