Since the time when pet owners, owned pets. Times have changed, just like abortions
were to mean to be euthanized. The same goes to pet owners, and other animals in the world.
Euthanized animals are also killed due to the new generation of people of today. People abandon
animals in the tough economy right now. Vets can help recover lost animals or injured ones,
when they were abandoning. Vets are the only ones who can take a stand when thetime is
difficult. 3 major points are going to be job requirements, vets are useful, and vets face diseases.
Vets could not be to much useful unless you get the right info of course. So people might
think that vets are like human doctors. But this paragraph mostly will talk about their job. To get
into a vet college you must have like a lot of practice in your youth years. You can’t just enter a
college with a low GPA. There are requirements like always to get what you want. If you want to
be a vet, or just hate animals and don’t care about them. You should rethink; they also take part
of meat inspecting and what you eat as well. NC state university offers a great for any vet
student; the only college that offers a vet career, more students are trying to get into the college.
Your GPA must be really high because there is like competition going on to getting in n.c state.
So please plan yourself before getting into high school.
My next topic is like the disease that is going on right now. The fact that owner of the pet
has no idea what’s going on within his pet. You will never know, your dog might have diabetes
just like us humans. Or your cat might have some sort of cancer. It must be treated like any other
human being. So just sit there. Take your pet to a medical exam. Vets must be careful because an
open wound on a pet that’s going under surgery can contract a virus and spread within the human
body. There are deadly diseases like HIV that are equivalent to the animal disease that exist
today. A disease named “equine herpes virus-infection in horses can cause respiratory diseases,
abortion in mare, neonatal, fatal death, and or neurologic disease (ANIMAL HEALTH)”. This

virus as I said is an equivalent disease like HIV. You might as well start thinking about taking
your pet to a medical exam to get him/her checked out. What are the chances of you becoming
affected with same disease as your pet? “Cattle fever is a severe and often fatal disease of cattle
transmitted by cattle fever ticks (ANIMAL HEALTH)”. So I hope this made you start thinking
about getting your pet the best care he/she can get.
My last topic is the importance of a vet’s life. Earlier I said that vets also take part of
meat inspecting in making sure that the beef, pork, and your chicken come in safety conditions.
Because you might think that without vets the cattle industry could go down. “on a typical day a
veterinarian working with small animals, for example dogs,cats,birds, and reptiles, in clinical
practice will: diagnose animal health problems; vaccinate against diseases, such as distemper and
rabies.”(Bureau of labor statistics).The diseases that are occurring right now will and 100%
affect your food when it comes out of the fridge. Just think about it, the cattle were to run out the
farmers would have to work very hard just to increase the number of cattle that are today. The
number of cattle affects the price of the meat you buy in Wal-Mart take time to think, if you are
willing to help animals in a bad situation. Without vets the world can be all disease everywhere.
With no one vaccinating them or making sure they are in good condition. So this is why vets are
an importance in the world. So I decided to interview an ask questions. My interviewers name
was Guy Beretich, and my question was how do vets deal with violent animals? In his words
“very carefully. But seriously, they trained to deal with them. Once you understand animal
behavior, it’s not too hard to deal with them without getting hurt. If you don’t understand them,
it’s easy” (Guy Beretich). So just by understanding his situation it would be a greater a chance of
you becoming so fearful to animals. Maybe no wonder people don’t like being vets so much. It
could be either that vets as a whole community could serve just like the doctors who take care of

patients. Sometimes people that have no clue about the vet field, thinking that vets are the same
thing like doctors. Doctors take care of humans, while in the other hand vets take care of all
species in the world today. But think about it doctors take care of only humans, and while the
vets are doing research about cures to help people. Not only is that but there more different type
of species that are being discovered in a year. A lot of research will be done to find these answers
about how many are there. So I asked my interviewer about the similarities and differences about
their fields in career. His response was “Similarities- dealing with complicated systems
(biological systems). Differences- broader scope of organisms makes you have to learn a lot of
exceptions. Also, much broader scope of practice in vet med-e.g. x-rays. Orthopedics, internal
medicine, obstetrics, etc. (Guy Beretich).So in those few words of his gives us at least an idea of
what to know when looking at the studying fields they have to go through, even though doctors
need more years in college than do vets. But vets also take their role in all of the categories that
are required to be a vet. People might not like animals because they usually stereotype them as
creatures that are super evil or something. But you gotta understand that we as a whole
community should at least care about dogs and cats because they are living things. Now one
thing I haven’t talked about yet is how much do vets make in their salary income. So to top it my
entire interviewer Guy Beretich responded in his words that the salary he makes is good. He says
“it used to be not enough pay, but it seems like that isn’t a problem anymore. Probably the
biggest is these very smart people see the same thing every day. Not much variety in the cases.
On the other hand, it’s better than human medicine (Guy Beretich)”. This maybe a lot of
information about why vets are important but this can inform you about what these guys do and
face challenges every day, like almost risking your life when doing an operation to an animal
that is highly dangerous. Doing surgery to a Doberman which were back in the day highly

vicious and nobody wanted one because they feared that they will get biting by them. I mean you
got to help the animal out, you can’t just except PETA over there to do the things by themselves.
Put yourself in a situation like them as well. What if you saw a dog that you saw crossing the
road, as you saw him he had an injured leg. Couldn’t walk the street. What would you do? He
might even get road killed if you just saw him running for his life. Now that wouldn’t be a pretty
sight if you see him get road killed, like the rest of the deer, raccoons, squirrels, and cats with
their organs hanging out. It might be hard for some people to see an animal suffer a deadly death,
while others really don’t care and still run over the animal. But what some people don’t
understand is that how did the dog end up in the middle of the road In the first place. Earlier I
stated that people are abandoning their pets because either they don’t know whats wrong with
their pet, they may be sick or the owner couldn’t just take it anymore or maybe even so a slim
chance that he couldn’t afford some food and decided to let him go. But now we are entering
2012 and maybe things can get harder or even easy, but I have to blame the humans for all the
problems that occurring right now. The species are losing their habitats cause of some workers
that decide to build homes, offices, and restaurants. But we can’t do anything about it since the
world has begun its upbringing of things that are so bad to the environment. Cars that are
releasing carbon gas, factories that produce roach spray, and the waste that is released in oceans
that cause the pollution. Especially the polar bears that are losing their home, all the suns
radiation is destroying every part of it. This can be very difficult for them and us since we get
food from them as well. Vets are trying to organize organizations that will abolish animal cruelty
around the world. But for right now their support from the people is really low, since the
economy is doing not so great. So one more thing i asked my interviewer was what the best part
of being a vet was. In his word he said “a lot of camaraderie with the staff. Since the animals

can’t understand what you are saying, you can say all sorts of things about them and they don’t
care. Ok, maybe better than that is the fact that you can really heal a lot of problems for
something that people have a lot of affection for. It’s very gratifying (Guy Beretich)’. Since he
has lot of experience with animals he can influence others to be part of the vet community.”
Animals have, since long ago, played a significant role in the development of mankind
civilization. Ancient cultures have left images depicting the interrelationship of man and animals
carved on caves, etched on rocks, drawn on scrolls and even sculpted with stone.”(Go
veterinarians). The life of a vet is like working with some unsanitary conditions sometimes for
example “they also work outdoors in all weather conditions, more frequently, though, they work
in laboratory conditions as austere as any hospital. Some vets work in the food industry. For the
government or both.”(Career veterinarian). It can be a hard life with animals or without them.
But the same can go to ones that have hard time facing dangers of being dead when caring for
larger animals. Animal cruelty is another thing that happens to animals because they were
dumped by their owners. “ whitely was arrested and charged on oct.21 with five counts of
disposition of dead animals and four counts of cruelty to animals. Officials also said they located
several deceased animals that were not property buried”.(Childress Gina)
My conclusion in all is that what vets do in life is challenging just like any other job that
can cause someone their life, what they do in all cases is that they try to find cures for the rest of
the species and other ones that are going under extinction. And life without animals is like no
fuel supply for people. If we can just do something about it, it can all change. Vets are the only
ones who can stand when the times are difficult.
