16. Evidence Based Practice
• A case study - A 45 HT patient with Tab Atenolol 25 mg. His vital sign
BP measured @ 160/90 mm Hg . On follow up BP level measured @
160/ 70 mm Hg but a patient complain of faint and discontinued the
medicine without authorization. Here the intervention is systolic
pressure is 160 mm Hg and expected to reduce to normal. Despite it, the
diastolic pressure is reduced to < 70 mm Hg . Does the patient is a HT
or pre hypertensive?
“Healthcare interventions can no longer be based on opinion on
individual experiences alone. Scientific evidences build up from good
quality research is used as a guide and adopted to each individual
patients circumstances…. “
In this case diastole is a concern as the patient is less than 50
years old. Close monitoring of the patient and non-pharmacological
