7. Why Cancer Planning is Important?

Cancer Treatment is also costly affair, it can costs anywhere between 3 lacs to 25 lacs
•
The treatment landscape looks like:

Doctor visits
o
Lab Tests (blood, urine & more)

Clinic visits for treatment

8. Cancer Treatment involves huge Cost
Scenario 1

Male , age 40 years, diagnosed with lung cancer
§
Just the cost of diagnostics
ü CT Scans, PET Scans, MRIs
ü FNAC, biopsy and other diagnostics came up to almost INR 1,00,000
§
6 cycles of chemotherapy + radiation for about 27-28 days.
ü Each chemotherapy session, consisting of only generic medicines INR 65,800.
ü Six cycles would cost INR 3,94,800.
ü The radiation therapy comes in different ‘packages’ depending on the side-effects. Together, the
two cycles of radiation for this particular patient cost approximately INR 2,47,000.

HER positive – will respond to "wonder drug" HERCEPTIN (very high success rate/less side
effects compared to normal chemo

HERCEPTION costs INR 75,000 per vial of 440 mgs
ü
Need may be 15-20 doses over a period of 1-2 yrs= INR 11-15 lacs

This is given with conventional chemo- costing around INR 1.5 to 2 lac
§
Radiation may be required in some cases : range from INR 1.5-3 lac
§
Total cost of the first battle with cancer was approximately INR 15-20 lac

20. Survival Period & Exclusions

Exclusions No benefit shall be payable under the policy in respect of any Major Cancer,
Carcinoma-in-situ or Early Stage Cancer resulting directly or indirectly from or
caused or contributed by (in whole or in part) :
•
Sexually Transmitted Diseases AIDS or HIV.
•
Any congenital conditions
•
Any pre-existing condition
•
Intoxication by alcohol or narcotics or voluntarily taking or using any drug,
medication or sedative unless it is an "over the counter" drug, medication or
sedative taken according to package directions;
•
Nuclear, biological or chemical contamination (NBC),
•
The policy shall terminate and no benefit shall be payable under the policy if
the
•
diagnosis or
•
signs or symptoms (related to the diagnosed cancer)
first occurred during the waiting period.
Survival
Period
7 day survival period between the date of diagnosis of a condition and the date
of eligibility for a benefit payment would be applicable.
Waiting
Period
A 180 day waiting period is applicable from the date of commencement or the
date of reinstatement of cover.
The waiting period of 180 days will not reapply -
•
Provided a continuous waiting period of 180 days has been served under the
plan, and
•
If the policy is revived within 60 days of lapse
