This document discusses establishing an employee of the month rewards program to improve employee motivation and morale. It recommends nominating top performing employees each month and presenting them with an experience gift box in front of colleagues. This recognition strengthens employee-employer relationships, boosts loyalty and productivity. A case study shows how retailer ASDA Walmart successfully implemented this program at their 400 UK stores, improving customer satisfaction while only costing £0.16 per employee per month.
2. Why do I need to reward my employees?

3. How does it work?
The objective of the Golden Moments ’Employee of the Month
Reward’ is to maximise return on investement by motivating
employees to deliver results that exceed their objectives and
recognise this achievement with a gift experience.
1. Each department manager completes the monthly nomination
form either online, fax or via email.
2. The completed nomination form is presented to the reward
sponsor eg Store Manager or Sales Director to review the
comments and nominee’s. This serves as a recognition point for
all those nominated and ensures that the reason given for the
nominations fit with the companies core business values.
3. Golden Moments sends the gift box to the manager who will
present the reward personally to the employee in front of his/her
colleagues to maximise recognition.

4. Benefits
By launching an ’Employee of the Month’ reward throughout
your organisation our experience shows that the business
benefits are greater than the small investment required.
The colleague – employer relationship will strengthen greatly
within the company.
The employees will enjoy satisfaction for their achievement,
which will create more loyalty from staff, saving on recruitment
and induction costs in the future.
With any incentive, evidence shows that productivity increases
per employee, leading to increased revenues.
An ’Employee of the Month’ reward is an excellent programme
to identify the key performers that are likely to make the best
managers of your business in the future.

5. Case study – ASDA Walmart
ASDA Walmart
– A world leading grocery retailer
– 400 UK stores
– 170 000 employees
– An annual average turnover of £17,468M
Brief
ASDA’s objective was to increase their customer’s satisfaction with happy staff and reduce
attrition amongst their personnel, which in turn should prove profitable for the company in the
long term. Their available budget per month was £50 per store.
Solution
Golden Moments proposed a nomination form for the “Employee of the Month”, which meant
that each department manager nominated one member of their team whom had achieved
excellent results during the month or performed an example of going beyond their job role.
The final nomination list of employees gave a specific reason why they should receive the gift
box. Finally the General Manager reviewed and selected a winner. The announcement and
presentation was made at the monthly store meeting.
