OUR STORY BEGAN NEARLY
NINE DECADES AGO
When you select a Globus holiday, you’re choosing a company
that has defined the way today’s travellers experience the world.
It all began on a spring day in 1928. While using his family’s rowboat
to transport lumber across beautiful Lake Lugano in Switzerland,
Antonio Mantegazza became inspired to share the stories of his
home with others. He soon began transporting tourists instead…
and Globus was born.
COMMITTED TO OUR PLANET
We’re committed to protecting the places we visit. By employing
environmentally friendly motorcoaches and partnering with
preservation and sustainability initiatives, we’re working to ensure the
world’s icons will be here to thrill travellers for generations to come.
HERE’S WHAT SOME OF OUR SATISFIED PASSENGERS
ARE SAYING:
■ “What an experience! If you want to get up close and personal
to the sights of the U.S. and Canada, I can highly recommend
Globus.”—K. Stace, ACT, Australia
■ “Great accommodation, delicious meals, spectacular scenery;
informative, fun loving, and very helpful Tour Director and coach
driver made this a wonderful way to see Alaska. Wonderful,
wonderful memories!”—D. Hammond, QLD, Australia

FAIRBANKS THE NORTHERN LIGHTS TOUR AIQ—11 DAYS
DAY 1 ARRIVE IN FAIRBANKS.
Welcome to Fairbanks, the “Golden
Heart” of Alaska and gateway to
Denali National Park. Late this evening,
join your Local Guide and travelling
companions and get your first glimpse of one of nature’s most magnificent
shows—the colourful celestial arcs and waves of the aurora borealis
(Northern Lights). When conditions are right, the aurora dances across
the horizon and lights up the night sky, enchanting even Alaska’s tough
ol’ “Sourdoughs” (old timers).
NOTE: Please schedule flights to arrive by 3 pm to be prepared for this evening’s late-
night aurora borealis viewing opportunity.
DAY 2 FAIRBANKS.
Your morning begins at leisure. Later this afternoon, enjoy a city tour of
Fairbanks that includes a visit to the MORRIS THOMPSON CULTURAL
Centre. Afterward, see the TRANS-ALASKA PIPELINE, one of the most
difficult and remarkable engineering feats of modern time. This evening is
another opportunity to view the amazing aurora borealis as it lights up the
northern skies. (B)
DAY 3 FAIRBANKS–ALASKA RAILROAD–ANCHORAGE.
Travel from Fairbanks to Talkeetna today on the world-famous Alaska
Railroad. The train’s wide windows are ideal for drinking in the stunning
scenery on this full-day journey that truly showcases America’s 49th state.
Keep an eye out for views of Mount McKinley—Denali, as the locals call
it—as well as wildlife along the way. Arrive in Anchorage and transfer to
your hotel. (B,L)
DAY 4 ANCHORAGE.
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Anchorage. You may want to explore the
historic downtown area, the Anchorage Museum, or join in some of the
festivities happening throughout the city, including a winter carnival,
ice-sculpting contest, a melodrama, and more. Check at your hotel’s
front desk for an up-to-date list of activities. (B)
DAYS 5 TO 11
Like Days 2 to 8 of Tour AI.
NOTE: The aurora is most active late at night or early in the morning when the sky is clear
and the air chilly. Viewings are scheduled from 10 pm–2 am. While the aurora is frequently
seen in February and March, it is up to Mother Nature to create the special conditions in
order to witness this phenomenon. Purchasing a pre-night in Fairbanks is recommended
due to the late-night/early morning viewing hours required to see the aurora borealis.

DAY 1 ARRIVE IN JACKSON.
Welcome to the “Wild West” town of Jackson, Wyoming. At 6 pm, meet
with your travelling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director
will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.
DAY 2 JACKSON–YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK.
Your day begins in the nearby National Elk Refuge with a fun and
exhilarating included SLEIGH RIDE. As many as 10,000 elk
congregate here each winter, the largest concentration of wintering elk
in the world. Your sleigh will travel among these magnificent creatures
for a truly up-close experience. Be sure to keep your camera ready
as we watch for other wildlife that’s in residence this time of year,
including wolves, coyotes, moose, bison, trumpeter swans, hawks,
and even bald eagles. Departing Jackson, we travel through GRAND
TETON NATIONAL PARK, where some of the majestic peaks soar
beyond 13,000 feet. At Flagg Ranch, board a SNOWCOACH and begin
your journey through YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, the world’s
first national park. Along the way, marvel at the West Thumb Geyser
Basin on the shores of Lake Yellowstone, the Continental Divide, and
Shoshone Point Overlook before arriving at the Old Faithful Snow
Lodge for a relaxing 2-night stay. (B,D)
DAY 3 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK.
Wake up this morning to the fresh, crisp air of Yellowstone in the winter.
After breakfast, enjoy a guided WALKING TOUR of the Upper Geyser
Basin, the greatest geothermal basin on Earth. Here you will view the
most famous geyser in the park, Old Faithful, as well as other less
predictable geysers, including Castle, Daisy, Riverside, and Grand
2626
Geysers. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Why not try a typical
winter activity like snowshoeing or cross-country skiing? Later, relax with
a warm drink by the crackling fire. (B,D)
DAY 4 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK–GARDINER.
Travel north through the park today by SNOWCOACH, with stops to see
the Lower Geyser Basin’s famous Fountain Paint Pots—named for the
reds, yellows, and browns of the mud—as well as pretty Gibbon Falls. At
the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, enjoy a box lunch in a warming hut
before proceeding to Upper Falls and thundering Lower Falls, which are
nearly twice the height of Niagara. Have your cameras ready, because
winter is the perfect time to spot bison, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, deer,
and coyote. Later, arrive at mesmerising Mammoth Hot Springs, where
heat, water, limestone, and rock fractures have created a unique terrace
feature. (B,L)
DAY 5 GARDINER–YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK–
WEST YELLOWSTONE.
This morning, join our excursion to LAMAR VALLEY, the magical
“Serengeti of North America.” Situated in the northeast section of the
park, this large U-shaped valley was carved by glaciers during the last
ice age, and is the perfect place for spotting elk, bison, bighorn sheep,
coyotes, wolves, and cougars. It is also home to the park’s largest
concentration of grizzly bears! Next, we travel to Bozeman, Montana,
before heading south to the town of West Yellowstone. With your free
time this afternoon, consider visiting the Grizzly Wolf Discovery
Centre to learn more about these intriguing predators as you encounter
them up close. (B,D)
DAY 6 WEST YELLOWSTONE–JACKSON.
After breakfast, board your motorcoach for a journey through Idaho.
Get a different perspective of the Tetons as we travel along the western
side of the range and enjoy breathtaking views of the highest peak on
the range: Grand Teton itself, which rises to an elevation of 13,777 feet
above sea level. Tonight, celebrate your adventure with a festive farewell
dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)

of our cruises feature breathtaking Glacier Bay National Park!

■ Discover Glacier National Park, Hells Canyon Washington Wine Country (NSI, see page 64)
PORTS OF CALL CRUISE HIGHLIGHTS See each holiday’s full description, page numbers noted above, for the exact itinerary offered.
GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK (SCENIC CRUISING)
This Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site protects a
unique ecosystem in an ever-changing glacial landscape. Witness the
spectacle of thunder and flying spray as huge slabs of ice break off and
“calve” into the sea—making for lasting memories. National Park rangers
accompany the ship, adding expert commentary to the day’s events.
HAINES
Nestled on the shores of America’s longest fjord, Haines enjoys a
spectacular setting. You may choose to take a float trip through Chilkat
Bald Eagle Preserve, home to the largest annual gathering of bald eagles,
or maybe visit the Sheldon Museum, art galleries, or local shops in town.
INSIDE PASSAGE (SCENIC CRUISING)
Sit back and relax as you cruise through the beautiful and awe-inspiring
scenery of the Inside Passage. Keep your cameras ready for spouting
whales, soaring eagles, barking seals, and other wildlife.
JUNEAU
Visit one of the most remote capital cities—Juneau. Accessible only by
air and water, Juneau is located at the base of two towering mountains
in the heart of Alaska’s Inside Passage, and is home to a rich Gold Rush
history, Native culture, wildlife, and a wealth of natural wonders. Shop for
gold nuggets, visit the stately Governor’s Mansion, saunter through the
swinging doors of the historic Red Dog Saloon, or visit mighty Mendenhall
Glacier, an impressive river of ice that is 12 miles long and 1.5 miles wide.
KETCHIKAN
Experience Native Alaska firsthand. Meet the spirits of the raven, whale,
and eagle as you view the largest collection of totems in the world at
Saxman Totem Park or Totem Bight State Historic Park. Or, explore Creek
Street, now home to contemporary art galleries and quaint boutiques.
SITKA
Step back in time in the charming port of Sitka, which reigned as the
capital of Russian America for 100 years. Experience “life under the czars”
with majestic onion-domed St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Sheldon Jackson
Museum (housing prized Russian and Indian artifacts), and a lively
performance by the New Archangel Dancers.
SKAGWAY
Once a major port for gold prospectors who passed through en route to
the Yukon, today you can still ride the antique White Pass Yukon Route
narrow-gauge railway up past Deadhorse Gulch to see what it was like
ages ago. Step back in time as you stroll the wooden sidewalks of the
town, preserved as a U.S. National Historic Park.
TRACY ARM (SCENIC CRUISING)
This narrow, 26-mile-long fjord is another of Alaska’s most dramatic glacier
settings. The lush rainforest recedes to reveal a stunning canyon of bare
rock. The panorama of 7,000-foot mountain peaks and nearly vertical
rock cliffs is astounding. Waterfalls appear at every turn. Icebergs make
their way to the sea in all sorts of wondrous shapes. And tucked away at
the end of this remarkable waterway are two very active reminders of the
Ice Age—the twin Sawyer Glaciers, which calve icebergs into the jade-
coloured inland sea. Kittiwakes, mountain goats, and seals are a common
sight. Whales and bears may even make an appearance in this magical
place.
VICTORIA
Experience a bit of Britain in this Canadian city with its unique blend of Old
World charm and New World experiences. Boasting the mildest climate
in Canada, the city is green and beautiful year round. You’ll find history,
architecture, colourful gardens, and traditions like Afternoon Tea mixed
with an abundance of outdoor adventure, world-class culinary experiences,
and a vibrant art and culture scene. Visit world-famous Butchart Gardens,
stroll along the Inner Harbour, or maybe sample some of Canada’s finest
brews.
