1. SENTOSA ISLAND “THE FUN CITY FOR ALL”
Sentosa is a famous island resort situated in Singapore; it is visited by some 5 million people a year. The
attractions includes a 2 km long sheltered beach, 2 golf courses, Fort Siloso, the Resorts World Sentosa
& 2 five-star hotels, which features the theme park Universal Studios Singapore. The name Sentosa
translates as "peace & tranquility" and in Malay (it is basically derived from Santosha in Sanskrit).
Sentosa is Asia's leading leisure destination & Singapore's premier island resort getaway, the island
resort is looked after by Sentosa Development Corporation, which works with many stakeholders in
overseeing property investments, development of attractions & operation of the various leisure offerings &
management of the residential area on the island. The Corporation also controls the Southern Islands, &
is also the owner of Mount Faber Leisure Group which runs Singapore's only cable car service.
The island has an area of approx 5 km (1.9 sq mi). It is situated just ½ a kilometer away from the southern
coast of the main island of Singapore. It is Singapore's 4th largest island (excluding the main island). 70%
of the island is covered by rainforest, the main habitats are monkeys, monitor lizards, parrots, peacocks,
as well as other native flora & fauna, also when the construction of Resorts World Sentosa commenced,
and environmental impact was kept at a minimum when over 200 trees in the designated area were again
planted elsewhere on the island. The island also has almost 3.2 km stretch of white sand beach. Notably
large portions of land are currently being added to Sentosa due to land reclamation. It is also called as
the city’s unfailingly famous resort getaway. The Britain turned the island into a military fortress in the late
1800s. In the 1967 it was returned back to the Singaporean government, who developed it as a holiday
resort. These days, a simultaneous effort to transform the island from tacky 2nd rate to tacky world-class
is under way. The overall northern front is home to a Universal Studios & theme park.

One of the vital parts of the island is The Sentosa Express; it is the complementary light-rail transportation
system of Sentosa Island, with 4 stations: 1 in the mainland, 3 in Sentosa. Soon after succeeding the
Sentosa Monorail, the Sentosa Express pauses at Resorts World Sentosa, the foot of Imbiah Lookout &
then at the beach. If 1 rides the Sentosa Express from Vivo City, he or she will be charged a $3 as an
admission fee.
