Memorandum of Understanding
Description:
G.O.A.L. University is an after-school prevention program which strives to promote healthy
lifestyles in elementary school children by providing educational sessions and activities focused
on nutrition and physical activity habits. In collaboration with __________Elementary School
and _____ University, the G.O.A.L. University program will provide nutrition and physical activity
education for students that attend the after-school program. G.O.A.L. has developed this after-
school curriculum to promote healthy lifestyles and equip students with the confidence,
knowledge and ability to make the healthy choice the easy choice.
The information below lists the duties and expectations of all program partners.
Duties of Volunteer (College Student Educator):
• Commit the following times for delivering the G.O.A.L University program at ______
Elementary School.

o [Starting program time – ending program time]
o [Start date – end date]
• Maintain professional conduct throughout implementation of the program including,
but not limited to: punctuality, appropriate dress, language and mannerisms with
children, communication with site coordinators, dependability, following instructions,
etc.
• Attend and fully engage in a group site visit prior to the first day of the G.O.A.L.
University program.
• Assist in the pre-and post-assessments of the G.O.A.L. University program.
• Follow the provided G.O.A.L University nutrition and physical activity weekly lessons and
times.
• Create outline for your scheduled lesson and implementation
• Supervise the G.O.A.L. University students and engage all students during lessons.
• Lead or assist with presenting interactive nutrition lessons. Nutrition education
includes: MyPlate, portion sizes, and balanced meals. All volunteers are expected to
participate with the children.
• Lead or assist with presenting interactive physical activity lessons and education.
Physical activity education includes: increasing physical activity, tracking activity, group
exercise, setting goals and limiting screen time. All volunteers are expected to
participate with the children.
2. • Respect all students and to the best of your ability accommodate the needs of students
with physical disabilities and special needs. Ask for the site coordinator’s help and
advice as needed.
• Maintain consistent communication with G.O.A.L. University program coordinator and
determine best means of communication.
• Meet weekly with team leaders for a weekly evaluation, inspection of the following
week’s equipment, and delegation of responsibilities regarding curriculum
implementation.
• Submit the weekly evaluation form to the G.O.A.L. program coordinator by 5:00pm each
Friday during the program
• Bring program concerns or needs to the G.O.A.L. Coordinator
• Work with after-school program staff to coordinate dates, times, class expectations,
classroom control methods, conflicts, etc.
• Consult with Site Coordinator for student concerns or needs
Duties of Site Coordinator (After-School Staff Member):
• Commit the following times for delivering the G.O.A.L University program at ______
Elementary School.
o [Day or days of the week]
o [Starting program time – ending program time]
o [Start date – end date]
• Advise GOAL U volunteers on effective ways to regain control of classroom, site-specific
practices, information about student behavior, and other information pertinent to
delivery of curriculum. This is the most difficult part for our volunteers. Assistance with
classroom management is imperative to the success of the program. Thank you for your
help!
• Lead the process of solving student issues that may arise including: unruly behavior,
taking students to the restroom, crying, minor injuries, etc.
• Ensure that all students that are present are participating in GOAL University
• Facilitate similar grouping of students throughout the program (consistent group of
GOAL University participants)
• Allow GOAL U volunteers to have control of the classroom and schedule on program
days
• Ensure access to gym or outdoor activity area for each program session
• Store GOAL University books on site during the program weeks (one book/child)
• Store GOAL University equipment on site during the program weeks (6 bins)
• Provide pens/pencils/coloring utensils as needed
3. • Offer advice, as needed, on adjustments or changes to the program that would better
suit your students
• Exchange contact information with GOAL U volunteer team lead
• Participate in a site visit for GOAL U volunteers before the program begins to help orient
them to your site and students
• Bring any concerns or questions to the program coordinator
Duties of Program Coordinator (IU Health):
• Provide curriculum for 12 engaging after-school sessions of the G.O.A.L. University
program at the Lafayette Boys and Girls Club over 6 weeks
• Train and supervise all volunteer teachers who implement the G.O.A.L. University
program
• Coordinate program schedule with after-school care site
• Provide all necessary equipment and supplies for the program and deliver these to
the program site prior to the first program session
• Communicate promptly and effectively with volunteers and site coordinators about
curriculum, program details and implementation
• Address any questions or concerns regarding program curriculum and activities
within 1 business day
