2. Design- My publication will be promoting pop music. I will be using
primary source photos of bands and artists that represent the genre of
pop and will include them in my magazine. I will also be including extra
information about the artists and exclusive interviews and giveaways to
attract the target audience (12-18 year olds). The magazine will have the
same colour scheme running throughout, Pink, white and pale blue will
be used to attract the female audience.
My magazine title is “POPular” I chose this, as it is an interesting play on
the word “POP” as it is a pop magazine and cleverly links to the genre.
The font that I used is from www.dafont.com and I feel it is very effective and
reflects the genre of pop.
House style- My colour scheme is going to be the two main colours of
white and pink like the title, with pale blue in some parts. Theses colours
complement each other and will attract my target audience (teenage girls
ages 12-18) as typically pink is more of a feminine colour and is used a lot
in pop magazines like (Top of the pops) and (we love pop). Although pink
and white are the main colours, pale blue is going to used which could
attract males and females of a younger age as typically blue is more of a
male colour, therefore my colour scheme appeals to both genders. All of
my text will be in the same font for my titles and subheadings and will be in caps
lock so it is bold and stands out for the reader. On my masthead of “Popular” only
the “POP” will be in capital letters so it stands out and attracts the reader, and is
clearly shown to be a pop magazine.
The layout of my magazine will be quite busy with lots of images and quotes of
celebs and music so the reader knows that there is a lot in my magazine.
Target Audience- my target audience for my magazine is female teenagers
typically aged 12-18. The reason I have aimed my audience at this age range is
because I am 17 and I will know what people my age and younger will want to
read. This magazine is going to be mainly aimed at 12/13 year olds but can be
enjoyed by other reader aged up to 18. The reason I am aiming my magazine at
such a young age is because young teenagers will just be getting into current
music and will be wanting to know all about new fresh artists that they can love,
and exclusive information on artists that they are already obsessed with.
Cover information- I am thinking about pricing my magazine at £1.50, this is
because it will be new to customers and I don’t want it to be too expensive so it
puts them off reading it. I am thinking that my magazine should be bi monthly as
there is always new music and new artists to write about and keep people up to
date with the lives of artists.
Publishing houses- I would want the immediate Media
company to print my magazine, because they already
have experience with publishing pop magazines like
“Top of the pops” so they will have the knowledge of
target audiences like mine that would buy this
magazine.
