18 lb in).

6. 4. Remove back up ring (6) from cartridge valve (5). Remove both O-ring seals (7) and (8) .
Installation Procedure
1. Install the variable valve actuator oil pressure solenoid in the reverse order of removal.
a. Tighten cartridge valve (5) to a torque of 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft).
b. Tighten nut (1) to a torque of 6.5 ± 0.5 N·m (58 ± 4 lb in).

1. Clean water pump shaft (6) and the counterbore for lip seal (9) in housing (1) .
2. Use Tooling (D) to install a new lip seal (9) in housing (1) .
Note: Install the seal with the part number on the metal face of the seal toward the housing.
Ensure that the lip seal is flush with the front edge of the counterbore of the housing. Do not
lubricate the lip seal. Use a press to install the lip seal. Do not install the lip seal by hand.
3. Install bearing assembly (8) on water pump shaft (6) .
4. Place retainer (5) with "OUTSIDE" markings toward the gear end of water pump shaft (6) .
5. Use a press and install gear (2) on water pump shaft (6) .
Note: Install gear (2) against bearing assembly (8) .
6. Slide Tooling (E) over shaft (6). The tapered edge will be facing outward.
7. Install gear (2) and the water pump shaft into housing (1). Use care not to damage lip seal
(9). Install bolts (3) that hold bearing retainer (5) to the housing.
8. Remove Tooling (E) from water pump shaft (6) .
9. Use a press and Tooling (F) to install a new seal group (7) over shaft (6) and into housing
(1). Ensure that the outer shell of the seal is fully seated in the housing.

13. 10. Put impeller (4) in position on water pump shaft (6). Use a press and install impeller (4) on
the water pump shaft.
Note: Install impeller (4) within 0.00 ± 0.25 mm (0.000 ± 0.010 inch) of the end of the
water pump shaft.
11. Install O-ring seal (10) on the housing.
End By: Install the water pump.

a. Tighten new clamp assemblies (10), (12), (7) and (1) to a torque of 8.5 ± 2 N·m (75 ±

b. Tighten clamp assemblies (3) and (5) to a torque of 7.3 ± 0.5 N·m (65 ± 4 lb in).

is approximately 40 kg (88 lb).
2. Remove two bolts (1). Install Tooling (B) .
3. Remove remaining bolts (1) that hold flywheel (2) to the crankshaft. Remove flywheel (2).
